64 GMC K1500 Power Steering Conversion

I Am doing an off frame restoration on a 64 GMC k1500 and am just finishing the framework before I mount my cab. I mounted a 2wd PS gear and am having problem connecting my steering shaft that the pitman arm connects to to the arm on the ball knuckle. Can anyone tell me what I need to complete this conversion. Thanks,Blaine

If it is like my 68, You need either a crossover steering conversion, or a 4x4 steering box.

Thanks for the reply.I dont think there is a difference in the power steering boxes for a 4wd .The shaft in both come out the bottom unless you know a steering box on a model that comes out the side. Thanks,Blaine

The boxes look the same but the pitman attachment is different. You will have to have a 4x4 box. You should be able to come up with one reasonably in a salvage yard off off of a 73 up truck. If you will sen me your email I will send you pics of my 4x4 setup (stock 72) Harold

If the '73 and up 4x4 box doesn't work for you for some reason, another option is a ps box off of a Dodge 4x4. In the late '70's Dodge used saginaw boxes on a bracket that turned the box 90* so that the sector shaft is horizontal and the pitman arm is verticle.
