Cragar SS Wheels
I've got a line on a set of old school Cragar SS Wheels. Supposedly they're coming off an early '80's Chevy Truck.
I'm wondering if anyone else has these wheels on a truck similar to mine. FWIW our truck is a '72 Stepside. White in color. If anyone has any pics of a truck with these wheels, I'd sure like to see it. Last edited by Baby John; 10-28-2008 at 08:52 AM. |

Re: Cragar SS Wheels
They look great.A member (Txfireman) that isn`t on as much lately has run them on trucks and there would be pictures somewhere.

They are classic, they look great on everything older than a 88 model.

Special-K is that your orange truck? Beautiful who's ever it is.
Wondering what sized tires those are. I love that stance I agree with Bus Ted Nuckle too

Re: Cragar SS Wheels
The orange truck belongs to....well...Orange. That's his board name anyway. His real name is Dalton and he lives in the peach state. I beleive the tires are 275/60/15 rear 255/60/15 front.

Re: Cragar SS Wheels
Thanks Matt. I have 275/60's on all four corners and those looked beefier than mine. Maybe the angle.
Georgous truck Dalton! It's giving mine a complex with it's crappy chipping paint and pitiful two headlights.

Re: Cragar SS Wheels
I normally run blackwall out, but those Cragars on the light blue truck kinda have a classic look with the white letters out.

Both trucks look awesome! I want to know where the owner of the stepside got his bed cover? You will never go wrong with the cragar ss wheels.

Re: Cragar SS Wheels
I have an old set that came off a camaro...be careful with the depth of the fronts as mine hit the disk brakes on the front of mine and locked them in place

I noticed the bed cover too. I'm going to try to have one made for our truck one day. Planning some rally stripes and I want them to go down the bed cover then down on the gate. Thanks for the input. There's one fella in front of me in line to buy these wheels. If he doesn't show then I'll get them and then try to pick up a set of tires to mount on them. The plan is to mount them Christmas Eve then roll his truck around to the front of the house on Christma Morning as a surprise. The kid's 13 yrs old and pretty excited about his old truck. |

Perhaps the reason they look beefier is the rears is on a 10" wheel? Dunno. Matt has the sizes right. Here's you a more side on shot: http://slickorange.com/MainTeaseLarge.jpg DLB Last edited by Orange; 10-29-2008 at 10:53 AM. |

Re: Cragar SS Wheels
I think you should get some like this Pontiac with the red lines. Trying to convince my Dad to do the same for his 74 Blue Stingray. Give's it that classic look with red line tires but with new school sizes.

Re: Cragar SS Wheels
Oh believe me if I had the cheese I'd go with 20" tires and wheels.
But, alas, I'm just a poor construction worker. I'm talking about a set of $200.00 used Cragars. Tires will run much more of course but still...nothing like brand new 20" wheels. |

Re: Cragar SS Wheels
Cragars are a wheel that "loses it" when you go to these trendy diameters. It`s either go classic or give in to the fad,IMO.S/Ss have a tough and stout look to them that is lost when going big. That are basically slots as much as they are spokes. They might as well be some other design by the time you change them from how they were designed to be.Those taller wheels just look like all the other knockoffs on`60s mags that are out these days.

Re: Cragar SS Wheels
I bet they wouldn't lock up on a truck with front drums. Except I believe all front drum trucks are 6-lug so they just wouldn't work. Sell them to a guy with a 72 or older A-body with front drums. They should work fine in that application.

Re: Cragar SS Wheels
Ive got spacers for the fronts but there 14x7 and im prolly just gonna get a set of 15s with deep dish in the rear and reuse the tribar spinners...They were an impulse buy that wasnt thought out to well by me lol
