1970 K10 front axle noise
I use this truck to plow my driveways. I got it before the first snow last year. I have a loud continuous banging when I am under load. Comming from the front wheel on the passenger side. I put off fixing it untill now. When I pulled the hub I noticed that the hub nuts were loose. I was able to turn them out using a dental pick. I read that you should torque the first nut to 40 lbs with a torque wrench. The sound, I am guessing , was that tire going in and out of 4 wheel drive. I took the axle out and the splines are fine. Could my problem be that nut was not all the way in? Or could there be a problem with the warn locking hub? Maybe it wasn't turned all the way in? I am grabbing at straws here. I looked at the ujoints and they look new and move nice with no loose play. If I can't figure this out I will have to put it back together and wait for total failier then I will replace what breaks. Any input is appreciated!!

Re: 1970 K10 front axle noise
The first nut gets torqued and then backed off 1/4 turn to give the wheel bearings .001 to .010 play. The second nut gets torqued tight.
