Re: 6 luggers

Haven't bought mine yet but these will be what I get 18's in the rear and
15's in the front.

Unless I can't.

Re: 6 luggers

thanks Aero, that is a great answer and reference. So, I see that 16" wheels were in fact available on C10s. The first pictures refer to "disk" wheels, but that is a reference to the center section "disk" of the wheels, I believe, not disk brakes. I know you probably realized that too, but it still leaves one question unanswered - will a 66 C10 16" wheel fit over an 11" disk brake setup?

Thanks again Aero - that is extremely helpful. From the pics, it would appear the 16" wheels still have the taper on the inner rim that is the same reason the 15"ers don't work with disk brakes. Just wonderin if anyone has done stock 16"ers with disk brakes (i.e. does the added diameter allow a switch to disk brakes without interference?) - and also wondering if the stock C10 hubcap (that fits on a 15" wheel) will also fit on the 16". I believe(?) it will - it's the 3/4 tons that move up to a bigger dia hub cap i believe. Thoughts???

Here’s mine back in 1992 when it was wearing 15x6 and 15x8 disc brake wheels on the original drum brakes:

Re: 6 luggers

The front wheels came from a local wrecking yard and were so common they were only $5 each. The 15x8's were new truck “take-offs” where customers ordered optional custom wheels on their new trucks. A regional wheel wholesaler purchased take-offs in bulk from all the local car/truck dealers and sold steel wheels for the outrageously expensive price of $50 a pair.

He had stacks of them 6 feet high, several rows deep and all the way to the back fence. I never imagined they would become rare or hard to find in the future. Disappointingly, I don't really remember what became of the ones I had. After the 5 lug swap they were either were given to a neighbor or went to the dumps.

Anyone know where I can get original steel wheels for my 64? Just got ORIGINAL hubcaps and I plan on using them.

Re: 6 luggers

I HATE THEM!
PO had them put on a a year before i bought them.
the tires are too big and black rally wheels don't fit my Original hubcaps.
i prefer to buy a set of original steel wheels (powder coat black)
coker whitewalls or just era style tires with my hubcaps.
problem is, they are too nice to just purchase new shoes (wheels/tires)
the tires are still 95% tread.

Re: 6 luggers

Found two 15" x 5.50" with clips in the garage today, didn't have my camera. Quite similar to the 15" with nubs or a Chevrolet refers to them Bosses
15" with "Boss" uses a 10-3/16" inner diameter cap
15" with clips might use the 7-5/8"

16" x 5" with clips- 6 stud uses the 7-5/8" cap

17.5" x 5.25"- 6 stud on the right, notice the deeper center section. I know the 7-5/8" cap does not fit!

Re: 6 luggers

I've got some factory 6 lugs on my '62 - does anyone make a center cap that comes through the back side like on the old wagon style aftermarkets? It looks like the center hole is 3.5", but the guy at the tire shop didn't have anything close.

im running a aftermarket bullet type center cap, with bullet lug nuts poor mans spider caps.....if your running stock steelies you wont be able to just run a center cap you have to modify/in large the hole since there is no space inbetween the rim hole and the spindle....in my build thread you can see the tool i used to grind the hole larger....

Re: 6 luggers

Ive never seen a center cap for the stock steelies. Speedway motors has some covers that wit the centers...might try there, but they go on the outside, not from the back.
