Thursday night I developed a nasty little vibration that is causing me some concern. At about 30-35mph, the dually starts shaking like I'm doing 90mph down a washboard road. It doesn't subside with increasing speed. It will only stop if I slow to under 25mph, or so.

My initial thought was that the harmonic balancer went bad, but when I got home and checked, it was a-okay. So I just parked it until I figure out what's going on. I have a few ideas, but I want to keep them to myself so as not to suggest the problem.

So how 'bout it? Anybody have any ideas on what the culprit may be?

Any loud thumps durring accel or deccel? that could mean a busted motor mount, also might check tire air and balance, tie rod ends, steering linkages, and upper and lower ball joints, look for knotts in any of your tires too.

No, no, no, no, no & no...it's not any of that. The front end was rebuild this summer, so I'm fairly certain it's not in the front suspension.

I'm suspecting a carrier bearing, but I wanted to see if anyone else would mention it.

I would say carrier bearing or the balance weights have fallen off the drive shaft.

Carrier bearing or U-joints since you tow with it or the weights on the shaft. Does it get worse with rpms?

It's not the tow rig, it's my beater:

It's not so much an RMP induced vibration, as much as speed induced. I popped it in nuetral in the driveway and revved it up...no vibration. Couple of guys over on CK5 mentioned U-joints. One guy in particular said he experienced the same symptoms along with a slight whine right before his U-joint at the t-case let go. Coincidentally, I had noticed a quiet squeal at random intervals in the last week or so.

I'm going to jack this pig up and pull the driveline this weekend and see whats up. I'll likely end up "rebuilding" the whole drive line, carrier bearing and all, to just be done with it.
