first pictures of my new-to-me '83

Well here is my latest project. It's a 83 w/305, 700r4. I love this truck already. I paid $700 for this thing how do you think I did??

The kid I bought it from said he was selling it too buy a Honda for "better gas mileage". I think he just wants to be a squirrel, which is ok too me.

Ahh but they are not that good eather. Even if you take it easy it is still not gonna do as good as an Fi or modern truck. I love my truck mostly because I can use it as a truck when needed. If I never planned to haul things...... Course trucks are just plain cool.

Nice Truck you got there and defiantly worth the 700 u shelled out. another one lost to the honda......... whats wrong with kids these days?

Re: first pictures of my new-to-me '83

Just checking the mileage ratings(fueleconomy.gov)for an 85,which I think is still a carb, his truck gets 14 and 18.The 2008 silverado with the 4.8 gets 14 and 19 mpg.The six only gets 15 and 20,so I am not sure about the fuel injection gains.Maybe that one mpg,but the payments make up for that double-time!!!! I had a newer silverado, gas mileage ain't that much different, just alot of the old trucks that people drive around these days are way out of tune!!!! Most people don't know that the distrubutor cap needs to be changed every hundred years!!! Oh well, that looks like a great truck to me! Have a good one!!!

Nice truck. The wheels look like the ones on my 84. Are they 16`s? Mine are.

Re: first pictures of my new-to-me '83

thanks guys, the truck has some rust but not too bad. I really haven't noticed that bad of gas mileage. I need to tune the thing up and go through the vacuum lines because they are nasty. Yes it has 16's on it, I believe the tire size is 245/65 r16.

2 questions guys

1. It has a monster lean to the passenger side, like probly 1-1 1/2" any ideas on why?? Cab mounts? Weak coil spring?

2. The steering is real sloppy and it pulls to the right real hard. Will a alignment take care of the "wandering" feeling?

thanks alot guys.

Re: first pictures of my new-to-me '83

hmm sounds like the pull and the lean might be related. With both of them being on the same side I would start with the suspension. You never know what people before you might have done. Someone might of tried heating a spring with a torch then changed there mind..... Seen it before.

The figures on that website don't specify regular, extended, or crew cab. They do not specify bed length either. Just judging by the numbers, these look like 2WD crew cab short bed figures, which are a far from fair comparison to these older regular cab trucks. My dad has a 2002 regular cab shortbed with a 5.3 that gets 17/20+ and thats no being easy on the throttle.
