Rear Parking Brake Cable

I'm having a hard time finding a rear parking brake cable for my '68 K20. Now they have one here, but they advertise it as for a 1/2 ton. Mine's a 3/4. Is there really a difference? Thanks.

Re: Rear Parking Brake Cable

I believe there is a difference, the catalogs I have here all list different part numbers for 1/2 and 3/4 ton.

Re: Rear Parking Brake Cable

Then again, others only list 2wd and 4wd being the difference. So I guess I'm no help!

Re: Rear Parking Brake Cable

Good idea on comparing. Hmm, if you go here and scroll to the very bottom there's two different cables:

Brake cable - rear, 1/2 ton, 4WD, pickup, Suburban, 48 inch length, 36 inch casing

Brake cable - rear, 3/4 ton, 4WD, pickup only, 48 inch length, 36 inch casing

Sounds like there's not really a difference. What else could be different about them? If it's something minor, which is must be, then I don't care. Anyone know for sure?

Re: Rear Parking Brake Cable

Hmmm, the only thing I can think of that might be different is the end that connects to the brake hardware, or the opening size/shape of the backing plate hole that it goes through. Otherwise, length should be the same. The could be a difference between coil spring and leaf spring.....

Re: Rear Parking Brake Cable

It's just that Classic Parts is $15 cheaper than anywhere else. But it'd be a waste if it didn't work. The photo looks like exactly what I need, though.

Re: Rear Parking Brake Cable

www.inlinetube.com has a pretty extensive listing of brake cables, etc. Check it out. Their criteria is broken down by wheelbase, 2 or 4-wheel drive, engine and transmission type, as well as truck type...i.e, C10, C20, C30, etc.

Re: Rear Parking Brake Cable

Stay away from parts house units I bought my first set from parts house and they were too short. After arguing with owner (wife's uncle) I spent 2 hours with warehouse and district rep. trying to find the correct part. They actually lst the same cable for both 2wd and 4wd 1/2 and 3/4 ton. It don't work. I ended up buying from Inline got the entire set since truck is a nut and bolt restore, long and short the 1/2 and 3/4 use the same cable and the ones from inline while pricey are the way to go. Buy their part and save yourself headache. Harold

Re: Rear Parking Brake Cable

Do 2wd and 4wd use the same cable as well?

Re: Rear Parking Brake Cable

2wd drive cables are 9 inches shorter than 4x4 cables.

Re: Rear Parking Brake Cable

I've had good luck with Classic Parts so wouldn't mind ordering from them. So what you're saying is that 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton are the same, then? "long and short the 1/2 and 3/4 use the same cable"

Thanks again, Dan
