Re: New to the club

Update:

After installing the dash pad and redoing the center console in April 07, I have been troubleshooting an electrical problem since May 08. Finally got that fixed by replacing the fuse link at the battery, properly connecting the HEI, and reconnecting the gas guage wiring. Hopefully that solved the problem, I will know for sure next time I start it and it dosen't burn through any more wires. I have an int. reg. alt. that I am going to go ahead and convert just to be sure. That is it so far.

Re: New to the club

Went to check the wiring to the back for the fuel guage ground, and I have no brake lights. I was not able to find the ground in fuel guage wiring, but I did trace the brake light wiring. No fuse I didn't have any fuses availble, but I jumped fuse terminals with a test light and pressed the pedal. Bam brake lights come on. So when I get to the parts store and get some fuses hopefully that solves that problem.

Re: New to the club

I am getting closer to solving the electrical problem. I converted the alt. to an internal regulated unit. Now my wiring does not get hot. Just the alt. I think it is ok for now. I installed the deluxe side markers and turn signals in the front bumber, put the license plate on and got it out and took her for drive yesterday. I put about 5 gal gas in the tank and washed all the dust from storage and got some new pictures.
Photos are the new alt, adding the deluxe side markers, and the before and after of the turn signal lamps in the front bumper.

Re: New to the club

So what is the deal with your hardtop? Is the paint in pretty good shape? Did the PO smooth the texture before paint? I am digging the grey color. I like it cause if looks like it could have been something that G.M. did from the factory, but still it's different from everyone else. It's a nice touch.

Re: New to the club

I finally got all the wiring out from under the dash that did not come from the factory. I removed the two relays that were ignition circut and spliced everything back together. Now, the only thing that did not come from the factory is my new steering mount tachometer that I got for my birthday. I had this exact same one in my yellow pickup that my dad got me for Christmas a few years back and forgot to remove it when I sold the truck. So, I got the same one that he got for me for my blazer.

Re: New to the club

Well now that I have pleanty of time on my hands I have been working on it again. I got the tach show above wired in and working. I thought I had the valve noise fixed but it keeps coming back more to come on that. Finally I had a full fuel gauge so I droped the tank today and found the wire was disconnected from the sending unit. The needle went from full to empty so I took it to the gas station and at $2.25 a gal put 16 gal in the aftermarket poly tank so it should be close to full, but the gauge is still on E. Back to the help boards on the valves and fuel gauge.

Re: New to the club

You should get a sway bar for those brackets, it'll make a night and day difference in that thing! It will turn and not lean while doing so! I have my 2wd and I guess if the 4X4 sells I'll hopefully be able to dedicate some time and $$$ to fixing up the 2wd and getting her on the road!
