More MN rust
Just showing my free truck I just got from a neighbor and grandfather! The 67 is in pretty bad shape so my neighbor asked if I wanted his 71 gmc with a "low milage" 350/auto! Plans are to use anything I can to make a cruiser out of my grandpa's 67
Heres some pics of my r/c crawler, 67, and 71! Last edited by Longhorn Man; 12-06-2008 at 05:10 PM. |

Re: More MN rust
It was heading to the crusher if the po didnt move it from where it was so it was really a win win for both of us!
Cant believe the support Ive gotten so far with the 67 tho. I leave oil stains all over my neighborhood and figured the neighbors would have the cops out there atleast twice by now but instead Ive gotten a set of vintage chevy hubcaps, a vintage suntach, a 5 ton jack, a complete truck, help pushing when I break it, and even garage cookies all from seperate neighbors. This never happend when I built stereo cars |

Re: More MN rust
Looks like a deal, you planning on using the 5 lug stuff from the GMC too. That would open up lots of possibilites for wheel combos not to mention help it stop better.

Re: More MN rust
That is my main priority after the snow melts. I rebuilt the drum setup and really dont like the "feel" so drop spindles and bushings are coming for christmas and Ill start planning the rebuild.

Re: More MN rust
The giving hasn't stopped! I now own a 86 or 87 Chevy with a 292/ 4spd auto with roughly 60k miles and runs mint and the body is shot.
My clutch started slipping on my 250 today and now am unsure about where to go from here. I have some decent stuff on my 250 including $50 spark plugs and have a feeling they won't fit in the 292. Not a huge problem I guess but I'm wondering if I should rebuild the 3spd or drop the 292 auto in. Clutch replacement is pretty much understood but I'm not sure what all is involved in swapping the 250 out for 292/ auto. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated! |

My grandfather was a pretty good body man in his day but his hands and eyesight are failing him more and more these days but once we get some new welding equipment he is going to do his best to show me the way. Most of my floor is wood, the cab has dropped about an inch on the drivers side, rockers and corners are gone, but for reasons I can't explain I must fix this truck. I'm 29 now but hope to have this one ready for my nephew by the time he is 29. Should give me about 19 years to complete lol. The yellow truck I haven't bonded with. Its got rotted frame rails but everything else appears to be pretty good for mn. It was garaged most of its life but seeing as I'm low on funds I wanna trade (locally/ with non forum member because I havent purchased a membership yet) the gmc stuff for 67 stuff but time will tell if that's a possibility. Only condition to the ownership was I had to promise not to register the truck with that frame. My rc crawler I could talk about all day being an electronics geek and geometry fan but I won't bore you guys with that for now haha. Thanks again for the look and if there's any suggestions on parts swapping, please feel free to voice your opinion! -Chad Last edited by ChaStur; 12-12-2008 at 02:12 AM. |

Re: More MN rust
Duluth. Wow ChaStur you are brining back some memories for me, I grew up in those parts (18 yrs), both my folks still work there to this day (Dad @ MN Power & Mom @ Northern Business Products), and my departed Grandpa used to drive his old Chev C10 from Superior to Duluth every morning just to get a newpaper. Sounds like you have a keeper in that old truck, regardless of the work that lies ahead (Or the Oil trails you leave) you have the opportunity to honor your Grandpa by restoring something he held near and dear to his heart. That is what it's all about. Stick with it, rebuild it, but most importantly keep it in the family and drive it with pride.

Re: More MN rust
Like sh?t! J/k kinda. They look and feel a lot better then the 15's. There's a hex hub that needed to be machined and the offset sucks! Fronts are OK but rears rub on my wheel well even after hammering them a little. Kinda looks like I'll tip over sitting still but I like them for what's invested.

Re: More MN rust
Well I think I'm done sharing parts on this forum but I'll still share my story. Here's my 67 in it's final resting place. Hit the frame frame rail do it's toast. Telephone pole at 50.. Please install seatbelts guys. I'm part twinky otherwise I probably could have turned out pretty bad. My head actually streatches the roof before breaking the window..

Re: More MN rust
Heres my replacement we bought for $500 off craigs and even got delivered over 100 miles for only $20. Not the greatest but it runs and drives like a new truck compaired to old.

Re: More MN rust
Thanks guys. It was a heck of a ride. Brand new pole and it looked like termites ate it where the pole flexxed and wobbled above me. I accidently kinked my dash taking the pad off and the dash absorbed alot of the energy. Couple brused ribs and a little brain swelling but after a two day nap I was a new man!
Oops. Side tracked a little. The 7000lb badge was to show it's towing or hauling limit if I remember right.. I'm not a badge guy so that's the first one to go in my garage. Eric! Long time no hear! I lost my laptop in the crash and after shaping my iPhone with a picnic table and aluminum batt it quit on me shortly after. If you still want that gmc gimme a call and we can work something out. I really need to get it off the property it's at. My numbers still the same. -C |

Re: More MN rust
Not much but some shots as of last night. Engine cleaned up really well so far and air cleaner looks right at home. Found that little trinket in the trunk of a deceased friends car and knew I had to use it on this build. Excuse any under hood chrome found.. It's only till I find the right stuff. Check out the sweet house carpet! Complete with wood trim and I gonna keep it for now but seats gonna go. Got some black leather stratus seats I'm hoping will fit ok.
Paint is gonna be the stock dash color if it's not tooooo expensive. I really like the green and I haven't seen too many around here that color. Should be fun! Last edited by ChaStur; 07-16-2009 at 05:54 PM. |
