Coolant Type

Are these trucks as particular about the coolant type you put in them as the 88-98 models are? I can't remember exactly because I've been asleep since then, but I know on the earlier ones you HAD to use the green or orange coolant. I can't rememeber.

Anyways...what do you use with the 5.3L?

Thanks.

Re: Coolant Type

If you are adding coolant to it, it needs Dex-Cool. The yellowish red long life coolant…. If you are doing a full system flush go back to regular green glycol antifreeze as older vehicles used. Some people swear by Dex-Cool and some people swear at it. I am one of the later.

Re: Coolant Type

flush it and use regular antifreeze people mistake the 5 years or 100k miles change interval it means which ever comes first i've seen cars 10 years old with dexcool with not being changed and they only have 50k on it and it has gelled up inside the cooling system
