The first step is to admit you have a problem!

A little off topic but I've always had a problem leaving things stock, what fun would that be? But I think I have finally hit rock bottom so to speak. As I drive a service loaner to work because my diesel truck sits at the dealer awaiting 2 new heads because mine are warped, and not knowing 100% for sure if they will cover it all under warrenty because it has a cold air intake, turbo back exhaust and a power programer. I just purchased a new 2008 Escalade, it now has 600km's on it and I just ordered a cold air intake, and will likely get a programer to go with. Now my important question from one major gear head to others that seem to have the same addiction as I is, has anyone heard Magna Flows cat back exhaust on a 2007-2009 Escalade, and if so how much louder then stock was it? I don't want it sounding too greasy?

What you guys think that a set of heads was going to stop me after all these years ??????

Not likely!!!

They better cover it under warranty. Not sure how the rules are in Canada but unless they can prove that the changes you made warped your heads then they have to cover it. I can't see those minor changes warping your heads.

Never heard a magna flow on an escalade. But magna flow usually have a nice deep tone and should sound real nice on a stock motor. Not obnoxious load like a flowmaster, more of a growl.

Congrats on the new truck. What kind of diesel needs heads?

Ya I have them on my 71 and they sound really good. I listened to the Escalade sound clip on thier website and they sound good on there just but hard to tell how loud they are. The stock system sounds pretty good, more like a sports car then a SUV, it has a resinator plus the muffler so must be farely free flowing plus the tail pipe looks like it's mandrel bent so not sure how much gain I'll get from a cat back. When you use a power programer on a diesel it increases cylinder pressure, problem is F*rd uses crappy head bolts that let the heads lift usually causing the head gasket to go over time. If it was off warrenty I would upgrade to ARP bolts, if I did it now my warrenty would be gone for sure. Most warrenty agreements on new cars and trucks states in black and white any changes AT ALL cancels warrenty, most dealers just don't tell them about small changes to keep happy customers. Problem isn't my dealer they will try to push it through, it's F*rd cracking down and sending company guys out to inspect major jobs such as this, if you have used a programer it leaves a distinct burn pattern on the pistons as a let tale sign.

Re: The first step is to admit you have a problem!

Sucks about the heads, but I agree with you! I cant leave anything stock. My truck, my bronco, my jetta, all have aftermarket exhaust, CAI's, tires, wheels, etc. Its what gearheads were born to do. I even borrowed my moms Envoy Denali and it came home with a flowmaster catback setup

My buddy works at Ford, he is a diesel mechanic and I hear nothing but bad about the 6.0 motor. Maybe it isnt as strong/reliable as the older or newer ones? Whatever the case I hope it is covered by the warranty.

Oh and I heard a magnaflow setup on a Yukon Denali (same as your caddy) and it sounded very nice Way better than stock, but I like them loud!

Can you say junk! You need to put head studs in it with the new heads. You have to take the cab off the chassis to do this but its supposed to be the best fix.

I wanted to upgrade to ARP while they have it apart and was told they wanted nothing to do with it I'd be on my own.

Are they doing it under warranty? If not I would find someone else to work on it.

Re: The first step is to admit you have a problem!

I'm pretty sure they are, they haven't said anything obout it not being covered and didn't say anything when I asked about the bolt upgrade, just that they would only install factory bolts. I didn't push the issue and took it as they were doing it under warrenty and would only use stock parts so I'd have future warrenty.

Re: The first step is to admit you have a problem!

The newer Escalades have the all aluminum 403hp 6.2L with VVT, so a better comparison to sound woud be a non Z06 Vette. The problem there is the Vette system wouldn't have the resonator just the muffler (both stock and Magnaflow).

Re: The first step is to admit you have a problem!

I have to agree the 6.0 was a bad ford idea . I have a 7.3 and it has really been a good truck and motor . I think they were worried about building to good a truck or something . The 7.3s really hold there value . Im like all brands and wish AMC was still in buisness .

I am a diehard bowtie guy and I bought a 7.3 and the only reason I sold it was it was a 2wd. You could get it stuck in wet grass.

Re: The first step is to admit you have a problem!

Na I'll stick with it, It's a Harley F350, had 7.3's at work before and this thing has way more pulling power. Seen lot's of 7.3's being resleaved after 5000km's brother had one that blew a head gasket at 3000km's. Don't get me wrong I don't think the 6.0L are better just saying they both have problems. Was going to trade it on a new 2009 Harley F350 but they use twice the fuel. I'll stick with it for now and see what the future brings, maybe go back to a Chevy or even try a Dodge if I had to be honest I think they are all junk.

Re: The first step is to admit you have a problem!

I have had two duramaxs and one 7.3 and one of the duramaxs was new. I have spend more on the second duramax in 10k miles than I spent on the 7.3 in 50k miles. I would say the 7.3 has less issues than any other diesel truck.
