Door hinge slop remedy

The driver's side door hinge on my 92 had so much slop the door wouldn't shut unless you picked it up about an inch. To remedy this my brother and I welded a 5/16" fender washer (had to trim the washer to get it to fit) over the hole with the pin in and lifting the door. The fender washer hole was a perfect fit for the hinge pin. Just figured I'd see if anyone else has tried something similar.

The holes were too wallowed out.

I'll have to remember this fix Krue. I know a few folks with the same issue, probably not wuiet as bad as yours.

You ever get the new dash cover in it?

Re: Door hinge slop remedy

The top hole in the top hinge mounted on the door doesn't take a bushing and the hinge looks to be a pain to get off of the door. We thought about welding the hole up and drilling it back out the right size but you can't get a drill to it due to the curve of the door. My brother was the genius with the idea for the quick fix. Yes Bill it's mostly in (got a few odds and ends left) but it's WAYYY too light. Gonna have to use something other than the Krylon fusion paint 'cuz they don't have a dark gray paint.

Re: Door hinge slop remedy

Are you sure there is no bushing at the top? There should be...I have done at least 25 of these and i there should be four bushings and 2 pins to retainers for the pins......Top hinge, has one small and one large bushing and the same for the lowers one small one big.....Top pin drives down.bottom drives up....?

Edit.....Maybe this is a design that i have not seen..But most if not all the Gm Trucks (should have) had the parts listed above.......

Re: Door hinge slop remedy

There are two bushings and one pin for each hinge (two per door). In each hinge, when the door is off, there are a total of four holes. Two on the cab, two on the door. From what I understand, it was the holes that don't have bushings that were bad. Anyway, it sounds a lot easier than taking the hinges completely off.

There should be bushings in all the holes. If there aren't then they've worn away which is what caused the door to sag.

Re: Door hinge slop remedy

My door doesn't have bushings on the door side of the hinge, the holes aren't near big enough to have ever had bushings.
