Hey guys,

I was wondering if i should trade a NOS in the box 1970 chevrolet grill shell for a complete TBI 454? What do you think that grille shell would be worth?
I dont want to get hosed.

Re: Whats it Worth?

I thought you could still buy the 69-70 grills from the dealership

Re: Whats it Worth?

They do make repops with the lettering and they sell from 500 (ebay) to 800 (parts suppliers/dealership) but they are hit or miss on quality. I'm guessing the 69-70 shell would be worth 800-1000 to the right person so if the 454 is in good shape that sounds like a good swap. And hey, if it's a good swap for you, it's a good swap

Re: Whats it Worth?

I can buy a brand new outer grille at a local dealership right off the shelf and it's less than 800 bucks.

GM still makes them. They are not rare at all.

Re: Whats it Worth?

From my understanding he was saying NOS as in from 1970. THe ones you can get today from a dealership are not from 1970 as they have barcodes, etc on the boxes and are GM reproduction items. The quality is supposedly less than a NOS piece. I can vouch that one I received and paid 500 for was very poor quality with runs and drips in the black paint, the stamping for the letters was off, and there were dull areas in the grille. There was a post recently that covered this and a few of the board vendors confirmed this.

Re: Whats it Worth?

The dealerships have started selling repo parts. They are GM licenced so they are according to the dealerships "N.O.S." To someone like us they are not GM but repops.

Re: Whats it Worth?

The price for a good quality NOS 69-70 GM Grill is getting very spendy. I would personally keep the grill, as they will continue to increase in value.
As for the 454 TBI, if you watch craigslist and the local junk yards, you can pick up a truck or suburban that has one in it for under a grand.

With that being said. If it fits for you and it is what you want for your project then do it, if not, then just wait.
