Phase 1

Alright folks, I dropped my GMC off at the custom shop today to complete phase 1 of the mods. I am so stoked, I've been working 7 days a week 12 hr shifts down near Austin on a shutdown for 107 days now (1 week and were done). I've been buying parts as I go (all ECE) and decided this would be the first thing accomplished on my truck.

1. 2.5" drop spindles
2. 1" drop springs
3. 1-1/4" sway bar
4. 4" drop rear springs
5. 1' drop shackles
6. Replace anything worn i.e., brakes, ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.
7. Repack wheel bearings
8. Replace shocks

I will end up with a 3.5/5 drop and all new springs. YEAH!!!
The owner of the shop is a great guy and awesome customizer, he had a write-up in Sport Truck Magazine on a Dodge he bagged and painted. I told him he has a week to complete it and believe me it will be a nice homecoming. Is there anything else ya'll can think of that would need to be looked at suspension wise while he has it? Sorry no pics until it is done, I'm just excited.

It is always good to have a guy you can trust and who is able to do a great job on the truck. My truck is almost complete after a 13-15 month resto.

Hensonjd, I am getting it done at Central Garage in Bremond. Michael Pruitt is the owner and he is a real down to earth guy. I have taken no less than 200 pics of my truck before, I even took pics of a tape measure in front of the wheel wells so I can keep track of the drop. Al, you are gonna make this possible, as soon as I get home I'm gonna go tire shopping and spend some of that hard earned cash to go with those awesome wheels buddy!!! I will keep ya'll posted. Here is a shot of the stock ride height.

Re: Phase 1

Hey guys I forgot to tell you a little funny when I dropped my truck off. My wife is friends with Mike and she tagged along to give me a ride home and hoping to talk to Mike's wife when we were there. She asked me "Honey is anything your doing to the truck going to affect the appearance?" I told her no honey just doing some safety assurance with the parts replacement.........she will never notice the huge amount of drop I'm doing. You know we would notice if our truck was dropped a 1/2".

I sold my wife on the "safety" of getting rid of the manual drums and upgrading to power discs and new shocks, and did a 4.5/6 drop with cnotch, new wheels & tires, and bought like 3K worth of engine stuff while I was at it! Safety first!

Love your truck, can't wait to see the progress pics.

LOL Mine believes a V-8 is needed to be able to go the speed limit as the I-6 is too slow for the modern road system

I love your truck and can't wait to see the finshed product. Should look really sweet. What size wheels and tires are you going to be running?

NEVERENOUGH, I'm still trying to decide on the tire size, Big Al sold me the rallies I will be using and looking at something like 275/60/15. That is what Al was going to run on his, I will probably do the same.

Re: Phase 1

Ok, I finally got all of the Items done on Phase 1 and here are a few teaser pics. I am so happy with the ride quality, and I cannot believe the difference the new sway bar made. Big Al, do the wheels look familiar? I ended up going with 235/70 on front and 275/60's on the rear. The family and I went on a trip to my folks house 300 miles round trip and it rode awesome.

Re: Phase 1

Hey Al, I would have taken some outside shots, but the garage queen doesnt like 35 degree rainy weather. As soon as it is a little nicer outside I will take some good shots. oarnges1, I cant wait either. 5.7 vortec/ 4l60e, new back bumper, 68 hood and grill. Yeah!!! Here is one outside before I put Al's wheels on it.

Chevymann1968, the PO rebuilt the motor 80,000 miles ago. He told me that it was bored .035, and thought it was a 383, it is definitely tired and the 350 only has 22,000 miles on it. Depending what I have in my 68 when I finally get it here, I may rebuild it and drop it in. The PO says he thinks it is a 400, I bought it because it is a SWB, and fairly decent cab.
