The factory build sheets were provided on the back of the glove box door, as well as, between the seat springs behind the driver. I have a '66 Chevy K10 with the original build sheet on the glove box door and in the seat springs...still in amazingly good condition.

This information was also provided with the Protecto Plate and owner's literature, but both of these were actually attached to the vehicle, when new, so rather uncommon to still be in good, legible condition.

I found my build sheet behind the seat springs (wasn't a long one

) when I pulled the seat out...Turns out my truck was built in Fremont, CA......Which is only 15 min from where I live !! The plant is still there...but it's called "NUMMI" when Toyota came into the picture years ago.

My truck has been a "CALI" truck all its life !!

Hey Bud,

Would you know where one on a 62 would be? The Glove box was dry rotted and had a bird nest in it once...... so we had to replace it.
The seat was bad as well, so we replaces the foam and cover too.

I have the one from my glove box. I just took the seat out and am going to look there. The one from the glove box is certainly not in pristine shape. The bottom portion of my seat has had the vinyl replaced once, so I'm not sure it would be there. The back is unmolested. Which of those two areas is it usually located in?

Same locations for the '60-'66. I am not sure about other years.

The standard location is in the seat back behind the driver, but it could have ended up anywhere in the seat back. I think it may depend on who put it there and what factory it came from. I'm sure the line workers of the day just thru it in and where it landed is where it landed. I think the build sheet was put in the seat back to make sure the proper seat was matched with the proper truck.

It was installed between the seat springs and the burlap on the back of the driver side seat back. It will be visible from the back, if it is there, so you don't have to dismantle anything.

Locating one in the seat springs is rare find because the paper dries out and becomes brittle, then it breaks away and goes bye-bye, so good for you if you found yours. I would try to save it by removing it and having it preserved. They are rare indeed still intact.

Mine came in a manilla folder along with a stack of receipts dating to '76, when the PO bought the truck from the State of California.

Yeah, I'll have to pull it out and have a look now, I'm curious. Can't remember how "intact" it was. If it's decent, I'll try & scan it & post it up.

After posting this, I realized I provided restoration services for license plates, not build sheets, but here is a "near-factory" build sheet blank, that can be filled in to meet the specifications of you particular truck. I found mine on eBay, but I was unable to find a link to another one, but they will come up again on eBay, so be on the lookout.

After reading your post I went looking for my build sheets and could not find any. But what I did find in a box the PO gave me was these two books. One actually has the signature of the owner of the dealership. And I think on the top of the little book is the original paint code and name.

Thought I would share.
