Re: Not so budget 3-link build

We have a show in Penngrove every year. My Dad lives there, and owns a candy store in Petaluma.

Was that the show down in the park a few months back? My parents still live in the house I grew up in just up from Penngrove school on Adobe Rd.

Yeah the IRS is working out great in the Tahoe because the rear floor is wood stock so I pulled it out and the new 03 Tahoe floor section is only 4" higher then stock so the 3dr row Tahoe seats still work out.

Ya it's in Penngrove park. We do it in September. That park is basically my Dad's back yard.

Do you know "Hutch" in the old fire house? I spent many hours sitting on a stool in his garage.
Were did you grow up?

Re: Not so budget 3-link build

I don't know Hutch.

I'm still growing up. But I haven't gone far. Went from Santa Rosa to Windsor in 7th grade. Been here since.

Re: Not so budget 3-link build

Lol, glad you like it.

Built strut rods. Getting some time in with the new MIG welder. Car is completely wired and plumbed, aside from the front two air lines. Strut rod mounts on the axle also act as a brace.

Re: Not so budget 3-link build

They are by SLP, and I believe they are the Loudmouth muffler? I could be wrong. But SLP is stamped into them, so that I am sure of.

Re: Not so budget 3-link build

I pulled a straight 26 hour shift, with a friend helping me for 12 of them, to get this car done for a show. Started Thursday at 8AM, and finished Friday at 10AM. Owner picked it up at 11AM and drove to the show.

Built front bump stops to limit the down travel. Also had to cut a hump off the oil pan and shorten the pickup tube to keep the pan off the ground.

And a couple pictures taken right after it went on it's first test drive.

It needs to come back for some little things, but it made the 600 mile round trip pretty much problem free. I fixed a couple of fitting leaks at the hotel, that was it really.

That car looks amazing! Along with all the truck fab work I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread and it has given me a lot of motivation to become a better fabricator. Simply amazing

Re: Not so budget 3-link build

Thanks.

A while back someone asked about the spindles I was working on for myself. Here is a little teaser, of the rough shape I am starting with. I sent out some drawings to have some more pieces laser cut for them, as well as for my sheetmetal control arms.

Re: Not so budget 3-link build

Its just the rails from the firewall(ish) to the front bumper at this point. It's sitting on the frame table under a bunch of stereo stuff. I will try to remember to move some stuff and take a picture of it.

Re: Not so budget 3-link build

you mentioned you learned most from books. If it would not be too much trouble, could you post some literature you suggest for a nubie?

Im really looking to getting my truck done very mildly, then come back after a while and get it totally custom after getting a few other projects on down the road. i would like to plan out as much as possible, and get some good experience.

If you have an ISBN# that would be GREAT, if not a few titles would be nice.

Thanks,

Bill

Re: Not so budget 3-link build

I learned a lot from books. But most of what I know comes from real world experience, and people I know.

The 3 books I have are:

Chassis Engineering - Herb Adams
Tune To Win - Carroll Smith
Engineer To Win - Carroll Smith
