Question Engine Start Question

Does anyone know how long it would be safe to run a Chevy V8 motor without water in it?? I know its a crazy question, but I have a specific reason for asking. Thanks

Re: Engine Start Question

Don't do it..... Maybe and I say maybe a couple of minutes at idle.

Back in 1971 I blew the lower radiator hose on my Chevelle. Before I realized what happened, the temp lite came on and then I heard a loud engine rattling. Wouldn't start after I turned off. Just clicked.. I had a cracked head but didn't have to redo the cylinders.

Re: Engine Start Question

No water? Not minutes, probably "A" minute at most, as soon as your cylinder walls and rings get above 200-300 degess they start to self destruct.
