Need help w/ starting inline 6

Alright I've been cruising this forum for a good while trying to find all the info I could on my troubles, but still no start for my 65 c10. My truck has the period inline 6 and was a great running truck til the transmission linkage broke on me. In the process of replacement + the million other things you pick up while disassembling, the truck sat for a while.

I've double checked the electronics; spark to plugs is strong. I've confirmed fuel delivery to carb (new fuel by the way). I have also confirmed my timing, but when I turn the key I get rotation, but no firing. Now, I have searched the forums for similar situations, and have tried all that I've found, but still no luck. Is there anything else I may be overlooking?

Also, my brother was rotating the fan by hand to adjust timing, and a few times the fan would rotate due to slipping of the belt. So the fan would rotate, but the lower pulley would not. Could this be adding to my troubles, or is this nothing to worry about?

I'm a student and getting married in July, so any free time I get you better believe I'm working on my truck. Its going to be my main vehicle if I can get it to a reliable running state.

When i get it running I'll have pics of the whole project up and start a build thread, but til then thats on hold. If ya'll need any pictures that might help please let me know.

I'll try to help.
Fan slippage is not a problem,this does not affect your timing.
Try a shot of starting fluid(with fire extinguisher handy).
If it starts,you've got a fuel problem.
Have you done a compression check?
That could find hidden problems.
Is your battery strong?
A low battery, or bad ground, can cause all kinds of starting trouble.

Check to make sure your starter wires are on the correct terminals. Theres aother thread with a colored diagram if you aren't sure...

Did you check the firing order and do you have the plug wires on accordingly?

You could check the firing order....15 is too young, 36 is too old, 24 is just right.
It might help us to help you if we have a bit more info. Did you remove the motor when removing the trans? Do you still have the old points system or HEI?
If the motor wasn't removed, you might put a little fuel down the carb to pour some fresh fuel in the bowl.Sometimes that will help with the prime. Starting fluid would probably tell you a lot...if it fires after a shot of that, it is probably fuel related.
Was the distributor out during this time?

Also, are you sure the starter is remounted correctly and engaging?

Have you pulled a plug and grounded it while cranking to see if the plugs are firing?

I also think it would be important to check the wires to the coil to ensure they are correct.

The engine has never been removed, and I've double checked timing, plug wires, and spark. My spark has potentially been weak because I found that my points were pitting. I'm picking up a new point set and button today after class. Everything else seems like its okay, but we'll see when I get the new points in. The battery is new, the grounds are good, and most of the wires in the engine bay have been replaced, but not all.

I had similar problems. Mine would start and immediately die. Wound up being the ignition switch wire unhooked on the back of the makeshift key ignition. It would get fire at turn key position but not when it was released in running mode. I would pour gas/or starting fluid down carb first. Just a little. then if not check the ignition switch.

My money is on the points, spend the money and switch over to HEI, hotter fire and more reliable....and it still looks stock.
