78 to 63 steering column swap

I'm sure this is addressed some place here that I can't find but we've completed installing a 78 chev steering column in a 63. I've looked over wiring diagrams for both the 78 and the 63 and can't seem to place 2 of the 7 wires. Any one done this swap?

I swapped a 77 into a 66, but I used the 77 wiring harness.

What wires? I think the newer columns had more acc power. Im guessing as I have been straightening out this swap in my 'burb; done by PO.

Re: 78 to 63 steering column swap

There are 7 wires coming to each pigtail. The wire harness from the 78 column
has 7 and the 63 pigtail from the main dash harness has 7. They are for the directional signals, stop light, haz light and a seperate black for the horn. I was just going to cut the connections off the ends of each group of wires and tin them together if I can find the correct combination. The wire colors are different.

Re: 78 to 63 steering column swap

I think all will work correctly, as the functions of the old and new harness are the same. I would crimp on spade connectors and hook it up; if you have any bad or crossed connections you can just unplug them and try a new combo....test it and get it right.

Re: 78 to 63 steering column swap

here is a 64 diagram

green(right) and yellow(left) are rear turn/brake wires
dark blue(right) and light blue(left) are front turn
white goes to the stop lamp switch
brown goes to the horn
purple goes to the turn flasher
maybe that is close to your '63 wiring?

Re: 78 to 63 steering column swap

Thanks, I think I got it. I've been working off a wiring diagram from my 63 Belair which is the same as the 64 pick-up diagram posted here.
