Here's my tech article! Maybe the mods will see fit to add it to the FAQ list!

I like something like this mainly because the dark shadowing makes the white pop off of the orange background.

Re: HOW TO: shop truck doors ?

I'd have to have Crushy on there too, but that's just me!

Too bad you don't live anywhere close to Minneapolis. How cool of a back drop would this be for a See Ten-ish backdrop?

Oh that's cool... Nothing a little See-Ten photo shop couldn't fix though.
I'd do the lettering and work in an orange some how.

Looks great!!! It is definitely is a PITA. I have just a little more work to do on my '69, and I cut my painting hand at work today pretty bad, so I gotta let it heal up a little before I finish it!

Re: HOW TO: shop truck doors ?

Especially when trying to do it so small.. But I was using cheap brushes (one with half the bristles cut off) and some craft paint I found laying around. Wet sanded to take the texture off the paint, need to hit it with 1000 grit to finish later.

Re: HOW TO: shop truck doors ?

My girlfriend used acrylic paints with a brush to paint the dead rat on my door freehand. She used her airbrush to do the green odors rising from it. For the lettering, 1 shot is the only way to go, it's awesome. I used emerald green 1 shot for the "Rat Poison" and filled the center with gold leaf. I also used white 1 shot for some lettering on the hood. I might do a little striping on it sometime too. I put like 6 coats of hot rod flatz clear on it to preserve everything.

Very cool stuff How you do the vintage lettering on flat black? When you wet sand and buff you will polish the flat black? Or am I missing something?

Re: HOW TO: shop truck doors ?

This is one of those "fads" that I really wasnt into when it was first getting popular, but I have to say there are some pretty cool door logos on this thread...Almost wants me to think something up for my K20.

Re: HOW TO: shop truck doors ?

When I did mine I knew it wasn't original, but I used River City because I live in Des Moines Iowa and we have the Des Moines River flowing right through down town. Lots of cool trucks on here. I plan to add more lettering to mine later. By the way I used 1 shot pretty much right out of the can on a hot humid day so it would barely lay any paint down to get the aged look. Also I waited until it was almost dry and then wiped a rag with mineral spirits across it to weather it more.
