I just added up my reciepts. :)
Wow! I added up my reciepts and total invested in my 69 shortstep not including oil and tires is all but $4,000. Add on another thousand for the purchase price. Things sure do add up!
I bet alot of you guys could put my 4 grand to shame though. So when you get the courage, add up those reciepts and lets here your totals!

I don't have all of the receipts to add up...but I know I've got in the vicinity of $7k invested so far and that's a rough estimate...and including the $400 I got back when I sold the THM400!

I've spent 2,000.00 cash since January, pulled my engine/trans out of the other truck (which was new, totaling 3,800.00) and it still looks like Hell lol. No paint... just a bunch of parts laying around still in packages
BUT, im heading to okc in a few weeks to cure all that. Hopefully by the end of the month it will be all painted and new interior (plus another 2,000.00) Total so far looks like around 8,000.00 |

That kinda information can not be divulged, may fall into enemy hands namely....my wife! Let me put it to you this way, when I get a little bummed about something I like to make myself feel good, and the best therapy I have found is to go out and buy something like a classic car , classic truck or classic parts. The last couple years I was getting bummed quite often. I am definitely in the "Out of Control Gang"....

ah, I probably have over $14,000 in mine (including $4000 purchase price). Heck, the paint and body work was more than I paid for the truck.

I bought mine after looking at the price of a new truck. 28k was what they wanted for the model I looked at. I figure that if I have less than that as a total, I am doing good. Now I am afraid to add the reciepts up, or at least afraid of letting my wife see what they equal.

Over 4000.00 CDN in the frame and drop rear end alone. I thinks another 4000 should finish it.

it hurts to look at this...
$4,000 for truck $2,200 new motor $1,550 air suspension (+drop spindles and trailing arm kit) $500 in new front end sheetmetal -$250 selling old front end $325 in new recovered bench -$500 selling old interior stuff $1800 for new cab and bed already painted $320 set of clean doors -$850 selling old cab and bed doors $800 in other misc goodies $9900 total so far! and all i have is a stripped truck that doesnt even run lol.. i still need, new wiring harness, front end painted, 700r4 installed, remainder of interior, and lastly 20" billets... probably another $7,500 + $1,500 for remaining misc items... i should be at around $19,000 once this truck is done.... ouch! but still WAY cheaper than a new one and twice as nice as a new one |

the more i read your posts, the more i feel the way i feel. to me, you are far better off to pay more money on a nice truck. than the start with an ok one,and put money into it.
i paid 6k for my longhorn. at the time i was wish washing wether that was too much money. sence then, i have put probably 2500 into her. so round to 9k. my truck is almost perfect, just minor little things. compair that to my old 71 freaking yellow ***** from hell. i had 7k+ in it. putting in new engine, trany all the other stuff. it was still needing at least 5k more. after that, it might be as nice as the longhorn. so if you dont want to have the pride of doing it yourself, i say pay the 10k or 12k these people are asking for restored trucks. most these guys are taking losses on the sale. just be sure its done right.

but i see mine this way. above i said ill have around $19,000 into my truck when its done, my truck is going to be pretty good show quality a truck like this sells for $20,000, dont believe me... look here. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=5348 honestly comparing that to my truck the only advantage that truck has is the chromed detailed 400, mine is stock 350. however i feel my truck has WAY more advantages, air suspension to his static drop, fleetside to his stepside, black paint to his gold paint, 20" rims to his 17"s, A/C to his non a/c truck. if that type of truck can bring 20k, im pretty sure mine will bring at least the same ammount. and to tell the truth, if i finished this truck and got to drive it around for a year or two and still got $15k for it, id be a happy camper. |

now if that truck had a new motor in it, this would be the type of thing im talking about. you would be better off paying 4 or 5 k extra for a truck that doesnt need...every thing.. lol

$1600 at last check, I did not spend all of it, I got them with the truck. Now THAT is how you collect recepts guys! Find some guy who just wants some money, and let him reluctantly sell you his project that is almost done. I keep my receipts in an envelope on my desk. I do enjoy fattening it on a weekly basis. I used to spend a tremendous amount of money on guns, now I spend it on my truck, so I don't really miss the money as much because it is less than I was spending. Best

I refuse to do this on the grounds that it might incriminate me.

one point we should make here.. even at 25k , you are stll better off putting your money in these trucks, than buying a new one for 35k!

Lemme think.....
$2500, price of truck $2300, new engine, performance parts, odds and ends, $550, new tranny $900, windshield, tires, brakes, power steering, heater, radiator, ect..... So, my $2500 investment has turned into a $6250 pit of money. I was doing a little math yesterday, and to get the rust fixed in the cab (easy thousand dollars or more), new wheels, various interior parts, new paint, and various trim parts, will cost me another $5400. So, i will have a $11650 truck that might bring 8k tops. Right now, i proably couldn't get a penny over 4k out of it if i wanted to sell it. But, its not really about the money anymore. I love my truck, and i am very attached to it. If i had the $5400 to dump into it, i would do it in a heartbeat. I really dont care if i have lost money on the truck, i doubt i will ever sell it anyway. It is a labor of love .
