Re: Lets see how you make your bed
Check out Mar-K for some information on staining/finishing your wood for your bed. They have a great write up on some different stains they used and their overall outcome.

Re: Lets see how you make your bed
Think hard about what your going to do with your bed after you make it. Where your going to keep it, garaged, covered or exposed to the elements.
I recommend using marine quality finishing material designed for exposure to limit damages from the sun. You will probally get many ideas as everyone has their own thoughts. Heres mine.

Re: Lets see how you make your bed
I stained the white oak, and then put 4 coats of 2K Bristol Finishes Marine Clear on, sanding after 2nd & 3rd coats. I waited about a weeks and put 4 coats of SW CC939 automotive clear on, sanding between 2nd & 3rd coats. Then wet sanded with 1500 grit and buffed out with Presta Ultra Cutting Cream and then polished with Presta Swirl Mark Remover. Put on a good coat of 3-M wax. This is my first time trying something like this, but thought I would give it a shot. The truck will be garaged most of the time with weekend drives and a few shows from time to time. We'll see how it holds up.

I like that Tim. Do you have any varnish or water sealer on the wood?

Re: Lets see how you make your bed
N2, those boards almost look as if they were weathered then varnished over to give it that gray look. That's pretty sharp. Got any shots of the whole truck?

Re: Lets see how you make your bed
Man mine looked like that right after I did it but I haul stuff in mine when I go to shows. Coolers, chairs, canopy, luggage, etc. I lay rugs down but it will still mess things up. The towel is not in there any longer. Had it in there to protect things when I installed the jack.

Pics of the truck? Well of course I do, but I had borrowed my daughters camera and the settings were wrong. Poor quality at best...
