Re: eaton ho52/72

i know what you mean.....i got one in my truck. it should be pretty simple since you got it out already. it is almost as common to working on a basic rear end you are just given the chance to pull the yoke end of the housing off. i looked around on line and there are lockers for them. i was told that my 52 is just as tough as the 72. the difference is drum brake size???? i have beat on my pretty good and has held up nicely.....i say they are good rear ends..

Re: eaton ho52/72

I pulled it out,my buddy said it was like a nine inch ford .I got the spyder gears welded and got the punpkin back in.I got some nineties model rotors off the front of a ford 3/4 ton,and made brackets for the calipers.I just gotta wait for the parts house to get my seals in.Hopin to hit the mudd tommorrow.

I had no idea that you were refereing to "welding the spiders" as "locking it"
That is just plain dangerous. The welding itself has a negative effect on the gears, because of the heat involved.....but the really bad part is when something fails, whether it is a gear or an axle. I have seen more than one immediate 90 degree turn as a result of a break.

Where can we get lockers? It`s true, the difference between the 52 and 72 is outer stuff, not the diferential.

I am not trying to be agruementative.....it's just a friendy safety warning....
Just because it is not a street driven vehicle does not mean that we ignore safety things. You are probably more likely to break something off-road anyway....If you are spinning your tires and suddenly one catches....bad things can happen.

i apologize. i remember reading about the rear ends when trying to find more info on mine and it was stated that the detroit locker or "No-Spin" was also a factory option from GM. so somehow my little brain recalled "Detroit Locker" and thought "lockers are available".......when they are not available aftermarket wise. unless you go the lincoln or miller route

but hey atleast i was 50/50 about my statement

Re: eaton ho52/72

It wasn;t to bad to tear down and lincold lock it.I marked everything position wise right down to the bolt threads on the bearing load caps.took me about two hours.I really think this thing is gonna hold up good, and I DO RAISE SOME HELL WITH MINE.
