Early to mid 80's front cross member

Need some advice. I'm not trying to get the low look with my AD truck. They look nice and all but I'm ok with stock ride hight. This is going to be an everyday driver nothing fancy. I have a chance to pick up a 3/4 ton early to mid 80's front clip for free. I want to transplant the crossmember and suspension to my 51 chevy 3100. I have seen some truck pics of the ppl from here and other groups that have done this and the "how to's" on narrowing the member to fit and everything. I have done some checking and the early to mid 80's trucks had a track width of (65.8 inches)regardles of 1/2 or 3/4 ton. I'm thinking that the ride hight would be taller and it would ride stiffer. I was wondering if I could put some half ton springs in to compensate. I would also be ok with using rims with a big backspace to keep the tires inside of the wheel wells. Any thoughts or advice would be welcome.

Thanks Bartman
