Anybody thought about doing this?
I remembered seeing this in a magazine a while back and found it again online. Have any of you guys thought about doing this to your trucks? I wonder how hard it would be...

Re: Anybody thought about doing this?
Someone on here was considering doing that using a Honda Del Sol rear window regulator. Might have been Frizzle Fry with one of his trucks...

Re: Anybody thought about doing this?
They did it to the 67 in fast & furious truck if you look at the video with the burn out's on it the guy has his arm sticking out the back. Also you can use a old station wagon rear window out of the tailgate that is electric and it would work pretty good I think.

Re: Anybody thought about doing this?
I don't know about on a 67-72, but there is a kit made to to this to square bodies (73-87) It is fairly straight-foreward, but there is a little "bravery" involved. Many people are not comfortable with the cutting that is required on something like this. I did several of them many years ago, back when removable hard top kits were popular too. I don't even have a guess about how many S-10, Nissan Harbody, Isuzu P'up and Dodge D-50 roofs I cut off back them.

Re: Anybody thought about doing this?
I have another plan. I have made the rear glass for mine, so that the glass will pop out at the bottom, like a side window on an Astro van.
The glass had to be drilled and hardened to allow this, but that was easier than I thought it would be. Last edited by piecesparts; 03-28-2009 at 05:14 PM. |

There was a new guy on here the other day that said he did it. It was a bagged truck in flat black primer with suicide doors.

Re: Anybody thought about doing this?
I'm more mechanical than body so I think an A/C would be less hassle. Just my personal comfort factor.

Re: Anybody thought about doing this?
I know the new tundras have this, I was just wondering how much fabrication would be involved to do it to our trucks...

Re: Anybody thought about doing this?
I was considering something similar. I had the idea of having the rear window cut into three pieces. I was thinking of having the sides smaller and stationary while a wider section in the middle was operational. I believe that the section would be light enough that a standard window regulator could easily provide operation. I would imagine some sort of H-channel could be found to work as a track for the center section. Okay, maybe I have spent a lot of time thinking about this, LOL.

Re: Anybody thought about doing this?
I like that. I think it's pretty neat.
But, there's an old axiom that goes something like, "Everything old is new again." IIRC, the original idea was probably in use 70+ years ago. If I had the abilities, I'd do it.

Re: Anybody thought about doing this?
anyone thought about using an explorer sport trac rear window? it has three sections, the outer two are stationary and the larger center section rolls down. and the entire glass, track, motor is an assembly that bolts in(to the sport-trac). www.car-part.com shows several in this area for $100-$150 complete.
