Re: Daverods project 66
Swapped out my 64 dash with light for a 66 dash with guages and a tech. Can't seem to figure out how to hook up the alt gage and the oil pressure guage. My old gage had one wire for the gen. and one wire for the oil. My new oil gage needs a mech hook up. I don't know where to hook up the alternator. I used the wiring harness off the 66 for the gages but the engine harness is still for a 64. Oh ya then when I was switching the temp. sensor from a two wire light sensor to a one wire gage sensor I broke the part holding the sensor. It screwed in to far and hit the thermosta.

Re: Daverods project 66
Dave, I think the oil is pressure and water is temp....not interchangable. That pic looks like a mechanical temp gauge...once broken they are done but can be replaced. It happened on an Autometer gauge I had.
The dash gauge pac also has an amp gauge, not a volt gauge. To hook it up is complicated. It is patched in the positive flow between the battery and alternator after the entire load of accessories(dash, lights, radio, etc.) I asked in the electrical section a while back and someone gave me a cool diagram....I never hooked mine up!! ![]() good luck

Re: Daverods project 66
If your using a mechanical oil gauge you don't need a sensor. This would probably work for you.

Re: Daverods project 66
Dave I just want you to know I just waisted my 1000th post on you. I dont know what to tell you about the oil. My 64 had the Mech dash, Not sure if he switched it out since he put a 350 in it. And I have a painless harness so I'm not help now.

Re: Daverods project 66
you might be able to change the guts of the mechanical oil to an electric one in the dash itself there usually just held in the fasia with two screws
you just need to find an electric one that has about the same sweep and works on the electric sensor

Re: Daverods project 66
it's really easy, you just have to heat the peice up before you can weld it. then you have to heat it a little as it cools so it wont crack the cast.

Re: Daverods project 66
it is possible to weld cast iron but it aint eazy
i saw sumtin new a while back it was some vibrating plate you could mount the piece of cast iron to to be welded on the vibrations while welding took out the heatstresses while welding after welding you needed to dunk the piece under in some heated sand to let it cool evenly .

Re: Daverods project 66
Anybody need a one barrel carb? Just rebuilt it. Works good. ? Just a stock one. What do you think is a fair price? Also have a 750 truck avenger.

Re: Daverods project 66
Something you can do to help them last is remove that crap factory paint (sandblast is best) and paint them with some good high temp paint....a couple of good coats. I use "Stove Bright" brand paint on mine. You should have some wood/pellet stove stores down there, they should have it.....it comes in colors besides black too. Seems like Lowes of HD carries it too.
