I go twice a day. Even when they don't give away free money. I wish they did it all the time I would have all my trucks done.

hmmmmm the guy building the boss hog was mentioning he was looking for either a set of 10 bolt hubs for his front diff 8 to 10 bolt adapterplates for a 8,5 10 bolt pattern or a 4x4 10 bolt front axle for wheels like that
hes thinking of using a 10 bolt rearaxle out of a 3500 hd with 19.5 inch rims and the one he has is a 2 wheel drive truck

Re: Daverods project 66

My manual steering gear box on my 64 has some play. I was thinking about putting a power steering box in it place. What would happen if I don't hook it up to the pump? Would it still work or would it wear out. I really don't want to buy a new manual box then down the road hook up my power steering.

Re: Daverods project 66

It will just help you build more muscle than the manual box. I would hook up the pump and enjoy the ease of driving. I started driving my '66 and it was a shock not having the power steering.

Re: Daverods project 66

The pump and the bracket for a 292 is the problem. I don't feel like spending 300 for a fricken bracket. I could use alittle more muscle. I kinda like the manual, keeps the arms looking good.

I have an extra manual steering box that sometimes gets used as a door stop you can have. You just have to drive to Boise to get it.

Re: Daverods project 66

It would seem to me in my limited experience that a power steering box without a pump connected would be much harder to use than a manual box.
I see L6 motors in trucks in the wrecking yards often. What is so hard about finding the bracket and who in the heck would pay $300 for it????
LM-c-somebody has later model manual boxes that could me hooked up with the adapter and a power unit changed out later...

292's are hard to find. Look on ebay they sell for 250 to 300 all the time. The bracket pump and pulley's. Way over priced if you ask me. Yet I just bid 215 for one and was out bid. I think I'll live with the manual.

There is a 292 in a service truck that is next to a truck I am robbing parts off tomorrow.
I will check on the price and let you know in a PM...
Any year will work? this would be a early to mid 80's truck I am guessing....

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...eering+bracket. I don't think it would. It's got to look like this. Some old c60's have them. The one in the 3rd pic is the one you want.

Won't hurt to look... $300 is ridiculous

Getting my rear tires off with a 72 rearend is a challenge. It's 3/4" wider on both sides and a 4" drop it's nearly impossible.

Re: Daverods project 66

Messed with my drive line. Figured out I can't rotate it 180. It's a two piece, it only works one way. I did notice the the u joint was'nt seated very good it had a big notch out of it. Moved my carrier bearing around alittle. You can really move it much. Went for a test drive. What ever I did it's much better now steady as a rock till about 80. Good enough for me. All my driving is in town. I was hoping there was a trick to getting the tires off? Oh well I'm use to take the bed off.

Re: Daverods project 66

Dave, are your tires stuck in the rear fenders?? I have to use at least 2 jacks and jack up the frame and the rear axle at the same time. Once the wheel is loose you have to let the rear down until the tire just squeezes out. Sometimes at about a 45* angle. It's a pain. I have 295's on my 'burb. Sometimes you have to let down or jack up the opposite side to get the right angle on the rear axle.

Re: Daverods project 66

I jacked the axle up, put stands under the frame and let the axle hang. Then I unbolted the wheels and tried to take them off. No go. I did'nt try jacking the other side of the axle up. Maybe tomorrow.

Re: Daverods project 66

Same here. I'm going to take off a 1/2" of the fender lip to make it easier. That or roll it under. There's about 1 1/2" of lip so 1/2" shouldn't make a difference as long as the braces are still welded.

I'm thinking these are going to catch on.I like the Porche. Maybe they will make a 4-5-6 kit.
