truck bed hard cover

Has anyone got a truck bed cover? is it worth it to buy one? does it save on gas? and any pics?

I don't have one on a square body, but have owned several trucks with hard covers. I prefer Snug Lid by Snug Top because it is one of the cleanest well built lids I could find.

As far as gas mileage, it will give you about 1 mpg increase. Not much unless you drive a lot like I do.

if you haul things alot that won't fit in the bed of the truck under the hard cover, save your money and don't get one. Another option would be some of the newer covers that are either a roll up vinyl cover (which i currently have on one of my trucks and love it) or the sectional covers that can be either hard or vinyl... just my opinion

I'm going tomorrow to look at several types at at truck accessories shop. The guy told me today that the fiberglass ones weigh about 600 lbs and take away any mpg advantages... he also said they sell one that has a lip on the rear end and a lock on it for the 73-87 model year. That particular line is made of ABS plastic (50 - 75 lbs) and would take considerable work to make entry which would attract quite a bit of attention in the process.

I'll post some pics later when I get it installed.

Thats the kind i had on my 87, it looked great, and didnt "sit up" on the bed sides, if that makes sense

DIDN'T MYTH BUSTERS PROVE ( OR SOME OTHER SOURCE) ? THAT BED COVERS DID NOT INCREASE GAS MILEAGE. I KNOW I read this somewhere.

Tell the guy that sells them and Myth Busters they are full of manure. I have had several trucks that I put thousands of miles on and I can assure you it will gain 1 mpg.

There are several brands out there that are lighter than fiberglass. There are many different styles too.

As far as hauling a load, it takes 10-15 minutes to remove mine. I "never" lock mine and have yet to have anyone even open it. much less try to break in.

I drive about 30 mins up hills, down in high winds and i dont haul
anything in the back.so it has to do something im guessing.

I have a CheckerPro cover on my S-10. The cover is very well built but the service end of the company is lacking. Took 9 weeks for my cover to arrive and they came up with every excuse in the book for the delay. One day I was told they ran out of cardboard (for shipping). The next day I was told the cover had yet to be built. Imagine going through BS like that for 9 weeks!
