Re: Cherry Bomb vs Flowmaster series 40

As mentioned...I had 40's and they were to loud as far as cab noise. Maybe of I was about 30 years younger they would be ok but I am past that stage and I desire a little softer sound. Spin Techs seem to have a nice mellow sound w/o causing cab noise issues.

i have a 454BB with stock manifolds, and dual flo pro's 2chambers, paid$57 shipped for both...they sounded exactly the way what you are wanting...... i changed to 1chamber flo pro's and its louder but different tone than the 2 chambers...

Re: Cherry Bomb vs Flowmaster series 40

Not sayin' don't buy new,but 300 hundred and up is extreme IMHO. I've got stainless on mine just changed mufflers and the tips were take offs. The guy just had the expensive stuff!! His junk is my gold!! LOL!!

Re: Cherry Bomb vs Flowmaster series 40

I have the turbo style mufflers on my 4x4 with headers and glasspacks on my 72 with stock iron manifolds. Both trucks have 2.5" pipes. The 4x4 has a bad tendancy to "resonate" at idle inside the cab. It can be annoying. Personally I prefer the glasspacks. They make my nipples hard!

Here's a bit of info that alot of people don't get though, the longer the glasspack the deeper the sound. If you use a 12" glasspack you're just going to get loud and poppy like echo chambers (which I hate). If you run a long glasspack like mine (30") then you get that deep mellow sound. You don't get backpressure from a glasspack, they're a straight through design as long as the core of the glasspack matches your pipes. Mine have true 2.5" cores. I'll give you a video of the glasspacks to listen to however, the exhaust sounds alot louder in the video than it really is.

Re: Cherry Bomb vs Flowmaster series 40

I just ordered the SpinTechs Sportsmaster XL's...as many have said it comes down to hearing taste. I had the Flowmaster 40's and the cab resonance noise was way to loud for my taste. Many years ago I had Cherry Bombs and they along with Thrush were the top dog back in those days for the younger crowd. The Sportsmasters will give the 402BB the low mellow muscle sound out the back w/o the high resonance noise in the cab. Lot of good info in this thread. Thanks all.

Re: Cherry Bomb vs Flowmaster series 40

I love the sound of Flowmaster 40 series mufflers, but for those whose budget is a little tight...Summit chambered race mufflers sound very similar and only cost $25

Re: Cherry Bomb vs Flowmaster series 40

I love the flowmaster sound... and if price is an issue... go with V-force.... made just like a flowmaster, just cheaper, and sound great, that is what is on my truck and I have complements on how good it sounds all the time. I think you have to find a dealer to get them though, I cant find them for sale online. I think FloPro makes them...

Re: Cherry Bomb vs Flowmaster series 40

I ran Doug's headers and 2.5" ID 40" long glasspacks on my 'burb, and now the same engine and exhaust piping is in my Blazer with Flowmasters and to me they sound almost identical. I'm 'gonna use the glasspacks behind my 454 on the Suburban for the time being just so I don't have to buy new mufflers.

Re: Cherry Bomb vs Flowmaster series 40

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Magnaflow! I am running these on my '69 SB. They sound smoother and more powerful than any flowmaster or GP that I've run in the past. Just make sure to run an H-pipe or they get a little raspy.

Re: Cherry Bomb vs Flowmaster series 40

I love the flowmasters myself. Super 40s are the way to go. My 90 GMC Sirrea GT has a mild 350 with true dual super 40s and no cats. It sounds amazing and I get tons of complements. Its a deep mellow tone, I find it best to folow them up with some long large diameter angle cut tips, for a nice crisp echo sound as well. I like the way this combination sounds. Bends effect sound to I like them straight out the back. My 71 has hooker mufflers of some kind been on it since i had it, it will be changed to flowmasters soon tho.
