Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Here is my latest design of the Impala SS rear disc brake brackets. These are laser cut out of 1/4" with 1/4" spacers stitch welded on and then tapped M12 x 1.25 for the caliper cage attachment bolts. These brackets will bolt onto the truck 12 bolt rear differentials from '64-'82 and the 10 bolt truck differentials from '79-'87. The price on these is $115.00 plus a flat rate shipping of $9.20. This pricing is always current and up to date. PayPal is preferred, but I will also accept money orders. The package includes one pair of brackets plus grade 8 fasteners to attach the brackets to the axle tube flange and the metric bolts to attach the caliper cages to the brackets. This setup is for the 5 x 5 bolt pattern.

If you would like a set, post in this thread, send me a PM or send an email to captainfab454@hotmail.com, and I will give you the ordering and payment instructions and current lead time.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

The Impala e-brake was a shoe setup inside the rotor which would be a little difficult to adapt to a 12 bolt truck diff. The Impala rotor fits over the axle flange with nothing more than slightly opening up the center hole to slide over the step on the axle flange. A die grinder and a flap drum will do it is 5 minutes or less.

I'm not aware of any 5 X 5 truck rotors that would work on the rear.

What year of 10 bolt? Are you referring to a 8.5 truck 10 bolt? If so I'm pretty sure the ddistance from the axle tube flange to the axle flange is the same as a 12 bolt. So they should work but I would need to verify that, unless someone here can.

I'm working on putting together a list of parts and part numbers. You basically need rotors, calipers, factory caliper brackets, pads, and hoses for a '95 Impala SS. You will also need a brake line adapter to go from metric to SAE.

What do you recommend for the prop valve when adding the Impala rear discs?

Well not having completed an install myself, I can't make a recommendation from experience. However I do like the tuneability of having an adjustable valve on the rear line. There seems to be a few different combinations that work for those that are running 4 wheel discs. Some have good luck with the disc/drum prop valve and an adjustable for the rear. Some switch to a specific disc/disc prop valve with good results. And others use only an adjustable valve for the rear. I believe that the different bore sizes of master cylinders as well as the piston size of the calipers used plays a role in what works as valving in a given brake system.

With that said,as for the Impala rear brake conversion, I think I might recommend seriously looking at the components that GM used on the Impala for a start. Although the weight bias of a pickup is likely to be a bit different than an Impala. Also the weight bias from one pickup to another will be different in how the truck was built. This is mainly why I believe an adjustable proportion valve is beneficial to the brake system.

BTW Scot, how did that booster bracket work out for you?

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

It looks great . . ... sitting on a shelf full of parts (Vette MC, Malibu booster, Porterbuilt Dropmember, 350/700R4, van tilt, blah, blah. blah.... Also should have a couple of steelies on the way .

The parts are waiting to come together but I've gotten behind on building the frame for my retroRod project so everything else is delayed as well. Should make for a busy summer. There will be a thread w/details soon.

The Impala SS used a shoe setup inside the rotor for an e-brake. So using These brackets on your truck won't give you an e-brake. If you need to have an e-brake, you'll have to buy the Camaro caliper brackets that glock35ipsc is making. Thanks for inquiring.

What front set up matches the ss caliper?

The Camaro or Impala's front calipers would match, but I don't know how you would mount them to the spindles on your truck. The biggest issue would be the thicker rotor on the trucks. The aftermarket might be the option for that. I'll have to do some looking and see if there is an OEM caliper that would work.

Re: Impala SS Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Capt....please check your PM's as I am interested.

I'm also curious to know what the diameter of the impala rotor is? Can you get me a measurement from the center of the axle to the highest point on the caliper? My wheel has a 7 inch backspacing so fitment is going to be close depending on the dimensions. Thanks in advance

Right now I only have one set left and Outlaw72 gets first dibs, so if this setup won't work for him, you're next in line. If I could get 2 or 3 more sets sold, I'd make some more.
