1972 c-10 project

i bought this truck two months ago it has a 350 in it but i dont know what gear ratios 1972 12 bolts came with and the tranny it feels like 3 speed w granny and it is big and round and has a pto cover on the back can someone here help
with this problem i have plans of putting in a 450hourse 327 just need to know what tranny and gears i have also the tranny has a really far shift pattern

The tranny is most likely an SM465. I don't know of any other 4 speeds used in '72. The rears came with multiple gear ratios. You will have to check it yourself. The best way to do this is to pull the rear cover and look.

Welcome to the board. I would get acquainted with the search function on the site. Their is lots of info and pretty much anything that you can think of has already been covered many times.

hey thanks but i dont think it is the original tranny it has a three speed steering column and dosent look like it has a tail shaft at all

hey thanks you were right it was a sm465 great work tranny but terrible for street/drag
