Looks good man. I knew you would change the gear box when I first heard you weren't real happy with it. The Goat looks good man. Got any other pics of it?

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

ported and polished intake and throttle body, satin velvet coated kooks 1 7/8" long tubes w/ high flow cats, magnaflo catback, k&n hot air intake, 'massive plug wires', dyno tuned, all synthetic fluids, billet pro shifter w/ custom ball, kdw new tread design all around. i think im missing something but you get the idea. he put down 372 on the dyno heat soaked. theres more there but the tune is very conservative.

my dd and project before the goat... LOTS OF APPEARANCE!! just SICK! still miss her...

and back on point! cant get side tracked or this thread going to be 50 pages long!

GTO is cool. those things are insanely fast even stock. my buddy had his tuned while working in Texas, brought it back and scared the bee-jesus out of me! 165 and the bastard still had pedal. the last pick is the best though

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

thanks joe! i'd probably consider a trade for some coys!

guys, my wife has laid down the law... she has put me on a budget that i have to follow as soon as our house finances are squared away. savings cant go under a certain magic #. on the positive side according to her "budget" there is enough $$ to buy the 5.3/4l60. soooo, things will slow down to probably 3 week updates. and im going to start on the cab fire wall(and save $)after the motors all set in and fuel system is hooked up. thats the plan anyways! i'd love to get rid of the goat so i could put that huge monthly payment to the truck but the deprecation is ridiculous.

I am going through the sale "re-sale" BS with me trying to sell my 2006 Silverado. I want what it's worth, but I think anything is hard to sell now. Deprecation is damn hard to live with, paying interest and possibly having to cover 1,1.5K when you sell is hard to live with.
Im glad to see you're still going the LSx route with the truck, I think it will all work out for the better. Im also on the same road with funds but for a different reason. It's slow but it's there. Keep up.

Same here. We keep 7-8 months of living expenses in a money market account in case the #2 matter hits the rotating air moving device. Budgeting had been a way of life for us for a very long time, and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's simply telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went! It's allowed us to stay away from payments of any type.

SBTork, if it only takes $1-$1.5k to get out from under something, I would pay that in a heartbeat! That's a very small price to pay to be able to pocket that payment every month. Put that payment in a money market account and pay cash for another truck in only a short amount of time.

Dennis - That's cool that you will be able to get the engine and trans now at least. I see myself taking a good amount of time in cleaning and detailing my pair, and I'm quite certain you will too! Other than the LS1 intakes (that's later down the road), here are a few pics I have saved to help me decide how I want to detail mine, the last three being my favorite:

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Dennis I'm sure she will loosen the reigns on the budget when she see's the LSX sitting in the frame, and she will want the body around it just as bad as you will. You are in a good spot with your budget. After you get the big purchase of the motor/tranny out of the way you do a lot of tinkering stuff that doesn't cost much. Keep your head up, and it will all work out. I'm in the same spot with mine. This engine and tranny is going to kill my budget, but once it's in then I can just tinker on other things until the budget recoops itself.

Bob those last couple of pics of that LS motor would look awesome in Fred!

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

right on, thanks for the pics Bob!! ive been over on performance truck most of the morning reading the swap into a '78... again!! trying to figure out the cruise... to dbw or not to dbw. i hate when i dont fully understand something. also looking into how the fuel switch and sending unit needs to be wired. most of the builds i find are not 100% complete... such as just using 1 tank when the trucks got 2, or no cruise, or no a/c "for now", ect... nowhadimean? i need to get this stuff fully figured out in my head.

Yeah, I knowwadchamean, I've noticed that too. I sure don't want to half a$$ mine, I want the things that are suppose to work, to actually work!

Keep an eye on this thread, although I know you are subscribed to it:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=354225

It sounds like Desert1957 might have the wiring info we might need to the tanks.

thanks john good point on the small stuff. thats pretty much how the chassis went together so well. lots of small purchases between anal detailing goter done w/o too many $ conversations.

i tend to over think EVERYTHING! i'd rather over think than wish i would have planned better!

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Wow.. I need to go back and read each post. I buzzed through and checked all your photo's out. A+ man! This is going to be a classic truck for your family for years to come! Love trucks with a family history!

Some one had posted info on the JC whitney dual tank switch. I checked in to that and the return line was only 1/4" and was not rated to take the LSx psi.
I found these as an option http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AEI-15106/

Put those in line and flow stops when you turn the pump off. You could use -6 Y's and connect them for supply line. At one point I had it figured out how to use this valve and still maintain a proper return line, but I can't put my finger on it.

DBW would be easiest for cruise, because it is all based out of the PCM. You just need a column out of a truck with cruise/accell/resume etc.

I think its awsome that your going with LSx power train. I'm sold on them. My 79 is such a pleasure to drive. Had it on the first 2 days of Hot Rod Power Tour and it never missed a beat, got 20mpg's on one tank too. And enough power to run door to door with a lightly modded 95 Imp SS.

Keep up the good work, I'll try to pay attention over here!

You're not looking at what I ordered then. The switching valve uses a 3/8" I.D. hose for fuel supply and 5/16" hose for the return lines, and is rated at 65psi. This is the same valve S&P and others use for these swaps.
