Just Curious
My son bought his first vehicle, a 2001 S-10 blazer 4wd, auto, 196,000. He gave 1000.00 from a dealer selling it as a "handyman special", in other words as is. She is loaded fully electric, moon roof , actually clean as a pin. Turns out the tranny needed replaced and I located one at the salvage yard and got a local mechanic to install it for him. He charged 757.00 to install including a BG fluid flush,and a new filter. The boy wheeled her around a day and had a pretty significant leak at the transfer case tail shaft. Obvious outer seal leak. Wasn't leaking prior to the tranny swap...thing is he charged 70.00 more...whats the average in your folks area for a tranny swap with a transfer case and how would you think on outer seals? Included in the price for install??? I appreciate your input.

Seals need to stay lubed. If it sits for a while they contract or crack. Once you start to drive it, the seal heats back up and seals properly. The rear seal should not be hard to replace. I think you got a good price. A tranny on a 4X4 install costs more than just an auto.
