That should run well. What do you plan to do with the truck?

Re: What can I expect with this motor?

It will just be a fun pleasure driver for now, in the process of fixing it up, may make it to a drag at the occasional local car show, other than that just wanted a good fast street truck. Something to blow the doors off all the hot headed little boys with their parents vehicles in this little town I love my truck and just want it to perform. Hoping to get a base idea of what I can ecpect out of her, and if I could get a way with a turbo or supercharger down the road? I have never been a fan of NOS but how well would this work for me? Figured this would be a good forum to post in there is an amazing amount of knowledge floating around this site!

Re: What can I expect with this motor?

it should be pretty stout without a power adder.

I might would do a nice roller cam instead of a power adder. If you run the cam thats in it use a diesel oil since most oil is crap these days.

Re: What can I expect with this motor?

I hear ya on the oil, it will never see anthing than Rotella T. All my vehicles without a catylitic converter run Rotella. Cant beat that stuff, in my opinion. It is also what the builder broke it in with as he is a firm beliver in in too. I am looking forward to see how much in woke up the truck, it always had a moderate 350 in it and it was fairly quick and a blast to drive with that, should be looking at 100-150hp past what I had. Now to find a tranny that will hold it... I bought a used stocker for cheap for now. The closest performance tranny shop from here wants 1200 to build me a tottaly built 350 Just will be a long time till I have the extra dough. Any you boys gotta decent 350 trans to get rid of cheap?

I have a couple of friends with 350's for sale if you are up for a road trip or some truck freight.

Re: What can I expect with this motor?

One of them has a manual valve body. It came out of a Malibu with a small block and a bunch of spray.

Send me a zip code if you want a quote.

Re: What can I expect with this motor?

PMed you my zip, if you didnt get it it is 67642. Any guesses on what I could get out of truck in a 1/4? I was guessing 12s but a couple people around here have told me with this motor I should see mid 10s. I see mid 10s is all you run on motor and if im not mistaken you have alot more HP than I do, so I dont see 10s out of my truck right?

Re: What can I expect with this motor?

12s with good traction and some good gears. But don't be surprised if you run low-mid 13s.

Nitrous is a power adder just like a turbo or supercharger. It adds more air to the combustion chamber. I was against Nitrous until I looked into it a bit more.

Re: What can I expect with this motor?

Thats more like what I was thinking, for now it only has some 235-75 mudders so traction will be a big issue. It will get the 295-50s off my other truck soon, that will help but probably still wont hook solid. But it will rarely see a drag, mainly just for fun. Thanks for your input.

295-50 radials? Don't even bother. If the truck is a part time driver buy some drag radials. I had some 295-50 BFG radial T/A with my 375 hp 350 and those wouldn't hook at all.

Re: What can I expect with this motor?

I ran Dunlop 275/60-15 radials on my short step wirh a 400 and went 13.12 at 103 on motor and 12.45 at 113 on a 150 shot.1.76 60 foot. It was fun on the street, pump gas ,and just the way I drove everyday. The motor was similar to what you have but I had World Products SportsmanII heads.I didn't like the ported 882's I had on it before the Sportsmans.Good Luck

Re: What can I expect with this motor?

Ya Wild I may have to buy a set of drag radials to throw on the back whenever I need them. I will only get to run an 1/8 possibly a 1/4 like a couple times a year, whenever the local car shows come up. So I figured street tires would be my best option for the time being.
And bigsnook, what didnt you like about your old heads? And are you running a dry shot or wet shot, a lil drop of NOS is something I may be interested in in the future so any advice is greatly apriciated.

Re: What can I expect with this motor?

I ran a wet shot with a separate fuel system,I'm not a fan of dry shots because nitrous is an oxidizer thus putting more oxygen to the motor, than you need more fuel to go with this or things tend to melt! On the heads issue: I had a freshened 406 that I put a set of ported 882's with 2.02- 1.60 valves. The truck went 9.60 in the 1/8th.I was dissapointed, and put a set of 462 fuelies with 2.02-1.60 valves, that being the only change,it went 8.80's the next time out, eventually I got it to go 8.60s with tuning.I think the smaller chambers helped, and the fuelies didn't have as much porting.I think the larger combustion chambers and too much porting hurt the motor. This might not be true for you! I personally haven"t heard too much good about these heads, but I'm sure others might say different. My .02 Good Luck
