How about a 96 SWB on an AD series truck?

I have access to a 96 SWB but it's in a different state. I'm considering it for a 49 Chevy but since the two are 5 states apart I haven't done the measurements.

Anyone done or at least considered this?

I tried a search but did not turn up any threads.

The wheelbase is not the same, also I think the frame rails will be to wide for the body to fit over, but you can raise the cab high enough to clear them unless you are wanting it low and mean. AD SWB is 117" and I cant remember exactly what those trucks are. It can be done though. Maybe someone else will have more information

you need to use a standard cab long bed. the wheelbases match up pretty close. it is a narrower frame and you will need spacers for the wheels to make them fit. there are plenty of s10 frame swaps on this forum look around and you will learn everything you need to know. i am currently starting my s10 frame swap so i still have a long way to go.

I may have misunderstood. I thought you were talking about a fullsize SWB swap. If it is a S10 SWB you just need to lengthen the middle of the frame to have a 117-118 wheel base. 117 is original and 118 will perfectly center the rear wheels. As for the swap look at my thread and many others on this sight

if you are talking about a regular can s10 short box then look up my build thread. you will neeb to lengthen th frame in the middle to make the box fit or just shorten the box to a five foot six inch box like i did.

Re: How about a 96 SWB on an AD series truck?

If you are talking about a full size frame, it is possible. My truck is a '49 GMC that was mounted on a shortbed '91 Z71 4x4 by the previous owner. He did a good job, but I don't know the details of what was changed. I do know he fabbed a radiator surround and new inner fenders to use the '91 radiator. It sits pretty high - it actually kind of looks like a short bed 3/4 ton.

Re: How about a 96 SWB on an AD series truck?

Thanks for the replies, but I led some folks down the wrong path by not clearly stating my intentions.

I was referring to using the 49 frame/cab and a SWB from a 96 truck.

Since I don't have access to the 49 (several states away) nor the bed 200 miles away (offered to me free to get it out of the way) I can't get measurements to determine feasibility.

I thought perhaps some folks on this forum may have considered or accomplished such a swap.

Re: How about a 96 SWB on an AD series truck?

ok but is the 96 a fullsize truck or a s series truck that is the key here that we need to know to help you out. a 96 truck is kinda vague. if it is a full size truck then yes you can fit the cab an possibly the box too. if you are looking for wheel base measurements to figure out if it will work, then just ask. their will be a lot of fab work to make it fit right because a 49 frame is fairly flat and straight unlike the 96 that is not. extensive floor work will need to be done to make it look/fit right. take a look at tigger stories truck to see what i mean. his is a task force truck but the same problem is their with the floor. just remember the more info you give us the better answer we can give you.

i think he means will a 96 short bed "bed" fit on his 49 truck chassis and cab...is that what the question is ???

Re: How about a 96 SWB on an AD series truck?

well then thats a different story. why didn't he just say that in the first place. like i said before info was too vague. the box should fit the frameas long as yor ad is a short box to begin with but as far as looks it will be too wide where it meets the cab. meaning the steps on the step side box. if it is a fleetside box the it will be too wide entirley. and it will look like a%%. if it is a step side you will need to rework the steps where they meet the cab that should be all. not gona say that it won't look right at all. i have seen it done but on the task force trucks only. the ad cab is a bit narrower than the taskforce trucks.

Sorry for the confusion. This bed is from a full size truck.

Re: How about a 96 SWB on an AD series truck?

a quick measurement on my '94 full size bed is 68" from outside top of bed side to outside top of bed side. the bed sides then bow out another 2" each side, for a full width of 72". Make sense?

Not sure on the width of the AD cab, but I'm sure this will be too wide

Also not sure on the length - mine is a long bed
