57 Chevy progress - Camaro Subframe is in

Hi guys,

Been working on the 57 on and off after shortening it from a LWB:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...69#post3083769

I installed the camaro subframe this past week. It took longer than expected, but its in.

This board and the HAMB help out a bunch, after piecing together post of others getting this done i got the overall picture, and yes it is 28 1/2 inches from the front body mount, I doubted some of the posts measurements and it ended up costing me alot, actually several days of more work.

In the pics its sitting on 2x4's high enough to get the jack into it, the 14 inch wheels don't help either, plus the fact that its still on the original rear end height and tires does not help. But its a roller. Next I am going to rebuild the suspension, bodwork, blah, blah, blah. This thing is going to be a budget beater.

I order to tackle the front frame horns, I welded pieces of metal to hold up the horns when I cut them off the frame, marked the garage floor and when the clip was on I lined it all back up, it aint pretty when you line it back up cause the subframe is wider up front, but all of that is hidden behind the radiator support and such.

This build is alot of fun. I am really getting into it. I will keep posting as I go along. Let me know if you have any questions.

Also I am looking for 15 inch 5x4.75 steel wheels, anybody got a spare set in the austin area? how about a 4wd s10 sonoma, jimmy rear end with disc brakes?

Nice work! This is how my frame horns were done. It required a lot of cutting heating and bending of the sub-frame, but the end results look great.

Thanks CD, your truck looks great and actually your pics were the some of the ones I was looking at closely to try to figure out how to graft the front horns on. But because the clip went in differently, the horns do not line up as nicely. They are alot lower I will try my best to make it look decent, but with the amount of metal work on something that you really cant see it will be more functional that pretty.

I will try to follow JML55's example in post #23, his look really good, but as you can see its alot of work.

Nice work, its coming along good. I'm trying a Blazer 4x4 disc brake rear diff set up right now and my only concern is the width if you want the low raider looks you need to tub because the calipers are in the way, they are narrower that the box sides.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

What are you guys paying for a 4x4 disc brake rear end now-a-days? I don't frequent junkyards anymore, maybe I'm getting old, but I dont really want to deal with that when i know I can buy stuff behind a computer....

Paid 300$ for mine and put in an other 300$ in new parts in it. New seals, bearings, brakes, and hoses.

Well I paid 200 for a posi 8.5 10 bolt out of a Chevelle. I put about another 600 in it because I added disc brakes and narrowed it using moser axles and housing ends. You can see how I did it in my build thread.

Nice Olds, I've always like them. You can take a look at my 55 Sedan at the link below.
