Saginaw 3 speed drain plug

This is probably a dumd question but here it goes. How do you change the oil on a Saginaw 3 speed? I see a filler plug about 1/3 up on the case but cannot find a drain plug??

i'd be interested in the same thing for my 72 suburban 2wd 3/4 ton.

going through doing all the maintenance since it has been off the road for the last 8 years. already put in new cap, rotor, wires and petronix ignitor electronic ignition kit on the stock 307 (will eventually be replace by a 406sbc w/ hei and 750 quad but for now just enjoying driving it). greased all the front chassis points and now want to flush that spunky little 3 on the column and put in some royal purple synthetic manual trans fluid as this will be an occasional tow rig.

if there is no drain plug, will have to drop the pan and do it the hard way (good excuse to install a fresh gasket). i would see about drilling a hole in the pan and having a nut welded inside to make a drain plug. i would use a stainless bolt to resist corrosion and look good. according to my factory owners manual both the saginaw and muncie 3spd take 3.5 pints (1.75 quarts). thankfully it isn't more because royal purple is like $18 a quart at pep boys. will be doing the rear pumpkin when i swap in a 3.73 w/ lsd in place of the stock 4.56.

There are 4 bolts holding the tailshaft onto the gearbox.IIRC the lower right bolt is a drainplug.This is from Hurst as I was needing info on a 3 speed floor shifter.Muley

Yes, remove the lowest bolt and drain it out that way.

I'm not sure what capev is talking about. There is no pan to drop on a 3 speed manual trans.

yeppers, drain with the lowest bolt, the fill up to the top of the fill plug. should be good to go.

I once spent a lot of time there,especially in the summer,on the Guadalupe River!
In the early 80's.I was in a car club there.I believe it's name was The Hill Country Hot Rods.
I had a 62 short/step Chevy truck at the time.
Very beautiful country!

Mike, You nailed it. The town has grown up a bit since then, now 50K population. I have been here 3 years, previously from San Antonio, before that Phoenix and love it. This area is now one of the top Harley destinations in the country but needless to say I prefer Chevy trucks!
