Nice looking work. That steering wheel looks sharp. Some good old-school hands-on labor really shows on a project like this.

Re: Grandpas truck, my dream.

Started to sand and prime more of the hood and did the bumper as well. I've been doing a little at a time during lunch at work. The heck with eating, this truck is more important. Man this is a lot of work but its worth it. I have been driving the truck now for the last two weeks and she is running real nice. I've been letting it bake on real good in the sun at work before I even wet sand it.

The bumper came out pretty smooth.

Re: Grandpas truck, my dream.

I really do not know. I think it was an option maybe for use to pull a trailer. I do not like it but I will paint it and leave it untill I can afford some chrome ones later.

Re: Grandpas truck, my dream.

Well I had some progress this weekend. My stick shift kept jumping out of gear so I got under the truck and ran the two rods so they were more parallel to each other. Now it goes into gear very nicely and doesn't jump out of gear anymore.

I adjusted my drum brakes more and now the truck stops so much better. I am really happy about that.

I was able to salvage my steering rod/shaft. I had stripped the threads and was unable to tighten the steering wheel down but now its fixed. Had to rethread it. Nice and tight now and not as much play in the steering either.

Here are a few more pics. I lost one of my hubcaps while hauling butt down the road and was unable to find it so I took them all off. I will be painting them this week and will be putting the dog dish ones that I have on.

Re: Grandpas truck, my dream.

Looks great man! I also got my '63 from my Grandpa about a year ago. He bought it brand new and it's went from a farm truck to beginning to look like a custom street truck. What are your plans for the front fenders?

Re: Grandpas truck, my dream.

Well when I get some cash later I will buy some chrome bumpers but until then I am going to be painting the truck Bright white with baby blue cab, baby blue wheels with white dog dish hubcaps and baby blue bumbers. The inside will be baby blue with white accents. I will add some pin striping later to tie it all together. I will be doing everything myself. A friend with a lot of experience in painting will be helping me paint it.

Re: Grandpas truck, my dream.

LOL...oops I meant to say bumpers. For some reason I thought you said bumpers. Heck no, not chrome fenders. I will be buying some patch panels and have them welded. I need to replace the back half of both of them. The passenders side will most likely be completely replaced since it has some damage to it but I will see if I can bang it out first.

Re: Grandpas truck, my dream.

Ok. Man, I was just thinking how goofy that would look. I forgot that they made patch panels for the front fenders. I got lucky on the fenders but severly screwed on the hood. Atleast you were safe on the hood. The fenders atleast have patches and are easier to find.

Re: Grandpas truck, my dream.

..nice work and good progress. I like the sounds of your plans, too. Definitely try to save the fender if you can, Im not a fan of the re-pops but they are nice if its fubar'd.

Re: Grandpas truck, my dream.

My buddy and I took a 50 mile ride to Tyler, Tx. today to pick up some headers from a good friend of mine. 100 mile or so round trip and the truck ran pretty darn good. She sputtered a little when getting to about 65-70 if I stomped on the peddle. I am thinking its my carbs. They need to be rebuilt most likely. She did real good if I eased into it. It only did it at around those speeds. Ran real smooth. My friend snapped a couple pics. I will take some pics of the headers later. I am hoping they will fit my truck. They are for a short block chevy. My friend couldnt use them because they didnt clear his 75 chevy pickup frame. If they fit I plan on getting some glass packs or something.
