Actually,back when these trucks were built automatics were still considered weak for te=rucks by many and manuals still held their own at the drag strip.You get true "lock-up" and total control of your shifting points.They were the HD 3spd,too.With a torquey powerful motor the tall first got you off the line and ahead before you shifted.Back 10 or so more years and you`ll find alot of performance cars ran 3spds,Especially before the turbo hydromatics.I owned a`68 short Fleetside 396/3spd/posi/tach truck that was one of two identical trucks ordered by two brothers that were into drag racing.
