Largest Tire/Wheel on Stock 4x4 suspension
Want to hear your thoughts on the largest tire/wheel combo possible on stock '71 Jimmy 4x4 suspension without cutting fenders? What offset on the wheels? Seems I've seen some in magazines claiming they run 33x12.50s on stock wheels...

The 33/12.50 would be like the old 16.5/1200 from what i remember you would have to trim the front horns. I think 31 or 32 were the biggest without trim maybe a 11-15 possible.

Re: Largest Tire/Wheel on Stock 4x4 suspension
I do have a 33x12.50-15 bfg all terrain on a stock 15" wheel, but it was difficult to balance. The tire is bulging on both sides. I have it as a spare. As far as that tire size, you can fit them w/o claerance issues. My 33's are mounted on 12x10 inch wheels. Highly recommend that wheel size. Here are a couple of pics. Later.

I had 32s on my stock 72 blazer and they were perfect.

Blue Thunder-You highly recommend 12x10 wheels. I'm assuming you mean 15" diameter wheels, 12" wide or 10"? Your Blazer certainly has a good stance. Have you had your springs refreshed or using add-a-leafs or perfectly original suspension?

Yup you're right. I meant 15x10 wheels. Fat fingers little keys, what can I say. As far as the Blazer, that's how it looked w/o any lift. No add-a-leaf or re-arched springs. I just put a 4" lift on and this is what it looks like now with 33x12.50-15 on 15x10 wheels.

Looks Healthy!!!
Thanks for the before and after...it helps guys like me trying to figure out how much lift, etc. You don't seem to have any rear end squat... what company springs did you buy?

Re: Largest Tire/Wheel on Stock 4x4 suspension
Thanks for the feedback guys. I finally have my Jimmy down on stock suspension. The 33x12.50s have not rubbed at all, though they are worn quite a bit. Probably go with 32s when I have to buy a new set

Re: Largest Tire/Wheel on Stock 4x4 suspension
This is an age old debate that IMO boils down to how you plan on using your truck.
33's on stock suspension works okay for the street, not so much on the trails though. One of the best combo's/fit with a 33, is to use the ever popular rally wheels that came stock on the next gen trucks. |
