Re: LMC rear gas tank install
I bought a lmc tank and think its a turd!! I bought all new cross members and don't want to hack them up! They advertise it for 60 66 and what a turd!!! If I could send it back they would have it back. Im thinking on cutting the spout and relocating it but a 200 dollar tank you should not have to do that!!! I have had good luck with all the parts Ive bought from lmc till I got this piece of dung. the pics of it in look great but I want to see hack jobs on cross members to make the thing fit!! I really hate bed floor fills.

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
I still want to see some mods to the cross member for this tank and I bought 4 brand new 1s for my truck. All I see is the spout and cross member in each others way.

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
This blazer tank is a POS... Do not spend the time and money on it if you plan on using a bed side fill. There is no way to get the filler to sit anywhere behind the rear of the wheel well to get a clean install. Also, my bed frame cross bracket sits RIGHT on the filler!! "Minor fabrication" is what the add said... False!
I had to hack off two cross members on my frame and the thing STILL doesn't fit right... If you want the filler on the passenger side and you don't mind, I think that would work, but the filler door will be in front of the wheel well which would look a little oakie to me... I'm ordering a custom tank to now take advantage of all the room I have back there... I'm a little peeved about this to say the least.

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
Yes, I had the issue too, made it work with some flex rubber and a few pipe bends from the junk yard, and cut my brand new crossmember but it is done! now needing to go with an in-tank fuel pump for my ls swap, i cannot stand the sound of my inline pump. yucckkk

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
This is what I did with mine for now. I don't know if I am going to keep it this way. Makes a mess when pulling the pump out. Of course if I were going to do it again I probably would not use the blazer set up.

TJ,
Here's a couple of close up shots if there are some different angles or views you need let me know I can get some more shots anytime. I was able to use the existing holes in that section of frame. |

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
Thanks for posting! I ended up having to straighten them and re-bend. I'll post up some pictures for future reference.

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
Hmm...
I wonder how lakeroadster's solution would work in a short step? When I bought my truck it came with the LMC "side fill" tank, which of course interferes with bed crossmember. ![]() So I sold that one and bought "top fill" tank, which works, but put the filler in the bed, which limits the utility of my working truck just a bit. ![]() Another issue is how low the tank hangs. It isn't a huge issue in my K10 once I installed a bumper, but I'm not a fan. ![]() But my biggest issue with the LMC tanks is the lack of baffling, which makes the gauge go crazy when driving. I would also imagine that fuel starvation could be an issue if I ever let the tank run below a quarter full. |

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
Pictures as promised. Orange County Truck and Car shop. You Will have to re-bend the support brackets for them to work right.

Re: LMC rear gas tank install 1966 GMC 3/4 ton
OK Stop ... !
I am not wanting to sacrifice my rear spare tire space for a new tank - right now Im running the original cab tank and it needs to be replaced ! My 67 Dodge truck had side mounted tanks and that was non sacrificial to spare tire space = perfect . Why isn't anyone into that idea ? Most of LMCs stuff is all about that rear tire area for their tanks . What els is out there ? Any ideas ? Help ! |

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
Hey how about using an Ford Aerostar plastic gas tank and it should fit on the passenger side up near the cab inside frame so you can still have your spare tire area in tact plus the weight distribution would be optimal .
I haven't measured this but I own an Aerostar and had the tank out a few times . I will measure it up , if anyone is interested . Of course going out on a limb is the Ford sender going to match the 66 Jimmy gauge ...? Dazz man |

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
The fill in bed is not an issue for me, this half ton will not be used for hauling anything when done. Just cruising and shows. My 64 chevy long bed had Two side mount tanks.

Re: LMC rear gas tank install
I know I’m resurrecting an old thread, I’m hoping someone can help. I’m planning on a new fuel tank install in my 69 Suburban. I’ve read thru this thread multiple times and haven’t found the answer.
What did Apache63 do differently in the tank install to mount it higher to not have to notch frame for the filler. Thanks. Posted via Mobile Device |

I took my straps and flipped them inside out if that makes sense.
