Just what I need...

Dang! I was coming home from work today and there was a '72 longbed half ton 4WD for sale on the side of the road - the guy wants $1500 for it and it has the original motor in it, a 350. Will post pix later -

Re: Just what I need...

O.K., here's some pictures - SM 465, PS, PB, very basic options, originally black, some cancer in the cab, right front fender, hood, and tailgate, clutch either needs adjustment or is going, but it drives pretty decent - needs brake work. I don't really need another mouth to feed, but He's negotiable on the price, and I'm sure I could get it for $1200. I need saome opinions, as if I don't know what you're going to say.

Re: Just what I need...

It looks like a nice find from what the pictures show. Hows the milage on it? It looks like a good canidate for a number of things (daily driver, weekend toy, restoration). I know I'd have a hard time saying no for $1200

Re: Just what I need...

It has 182,000 miles - the guy bought it in 1973 with 29,000 miles on it - (second owner) the original owner bought it to take to the desert to hunt mountain lions, but sold it and bought a shortbed. I'd be the third owner. He's got reciepts going back for years, but it doesn't look like he pumped money into it.

182,000... and I'm guessin "doesn't look like he pumped money into it" probably means it hasn't been freshened up. Well all in all, if it doesn't knock or pour smoke out the pipe, there's hope yet, and you are the one with the wallet that will take this hit. lol. Like you said, you already know what the majority of us here are gonna say. Personally, I like it. Not perfect by any means, but would be a fun ol' 4x4 with some $$$$. Not that I'm encouraging anything...

Re: Just what I need...

If I had the extra cash, I would buy it. I have been wanting a 4x4, and that seems like a decent deal

Re: Just what I need...

If it was going to be your first project vehicle, i would say go for it. However, with the number of projects you already have and with the rust on this one I would say pass on it. Put the money and effort into your other rigs. This 4x4 will need everything, it's had no work done to it. Also, that rust just turns me off, being that I'm spoiled by rust free metal here in So Cal.

Re: Just what I need...

A 4X4 with that little rust for under 15K? I would jump on that in an instant here in NC.

Re: Just what I need...

I like it, since it's pretty complete and original. Probably not that many suprises under the ugly stuff, so you can feel a little better about what you may be gdtting yourself into (at least I would).

I personally would be all over it, if it were a K20 just for the heavy duty aspect.

The driver door kinda buggs me, since it looks like it was wrenched backwards at some point. Which would meen some hefty body work for the door to close right.

How does the bed and tailgate look?

To me, after working on my burb for so many years. Cleaning up this PU to a nice solid DD would be a breeze.

Re: Just what I need...

I'd jump on it.

Think about it later when you get it home and take a closer look at it, and if you find something you didn't expect or you decide it's just to much to work on for now then sell it after puttin some free elbow grease into it.

If anything you can make a little profit, or you could end up with a new resto toy? But with time to think about it.
