AIR Injection System

My '69 has the AIR injection system for pollution control. It has a special exhaust manifold that allows air to be pumped in to complete the burn. Can this be easily removed? How do you plug the holes in the exhaust manifold?

Re: AIR Injection System

Remove the pump and tubes and put pipe plugs in the manifold holes.

Re: AIR Injection System

I took mine off of my 84 dodge. I'm assuming that they are pretty well the same thing. I took off the pump and plugged the hoses. When i get the chance i'm going to take the hoses and tubes off and block them off. I had a real bad popping from the exhaust on deceleration with the pump on. Took it off and the pop is gone. Didnt hurt or help the way the engine runs.

I'm not familiar with what they're like on the chevy's but mine has rubber hoses that go to metal tubes and the tubes go to the manifolds. I plugged the rubber hoses for now. If yours has those you can do that or I'm guessing that you could crimp and fold the metal tubes to block them off.

Re: AIR Injection System

you will need to get 1/4 pipe plugs. I got the brass ones at the local HW store.

Re: AIR Injection System

I bought plugs from Ebay that use an allen wrench/socket to install them and sit flush. Look a lot cleaner than pipe plugs. Camaro Restoration places also sell the proper oem plugs with a hex head on them.

Re: AIR Injection System

My truck was a cali built cali emissions truck in which the air cleaner flap, air injection, and egr all died within weeks of each other. I just used bolts for the air injection ports and it looks like crap. I didn't care because headers are coming soon.
