Installing 68 hood on 71 GMC

My question is just the opposite of mickymouse. I removed the dual headlight mounts off of my 71 GMC radiator support and plan on installing a 68 Chevy hood and grill. Currently the fenders are about 3/4" wider (large gap)than the 68 hood. Are rad supports the same on both trucks, or is the 68 narrower? I know the hood on a 68 is narrower on the front due to the fact the GMC had a shorter hood with the top bar adding to the length. I'm currently on crutches so all I can do at this point is "wonder" if I just need to re-adjust my fenders or replace the radiator support. Any ever do this before or know if it'll work? Thanks for any info.

Re: Installing 68 hood on 71 GMC

I installed a Chevy nose on my 68 GMC , spent a lot of wasted time and money before i learned all the differences between a GMC and a Chevy when it comes to the front clip. The cores are different and fenders also between 67/68 and 69/72.

to make a 71 GMC look like a 68 chevy, all you need is the hood, the grill, rad core support, and the hood latching assembly.
Then replace alll the GMC badges if you don't want it to look funny.

Re: Installing 68 hood on 71 GMC

I figured Longhorn Man would have the anwser. I didn't want to hear it though as I have it installed with everything else bolted to it. It's about ready for paint and just yesterday I got help putting the 68 hood in place. I do have a 68 rad support still installed in my parts truck, I'd just put a lot of time in the GMC support.
Beefcake, there is nothing at all wrong with the GMC look. It is being built to be used basically as my car, I felt the sloped hood would add to the aerodynamics of the truck and also clean up the look a bit. I eleminated the cargo lamp also. I figure the older stuff looks, the better. Thanks for the help.
