Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs
This is my 65 crew cab I did 4 or 5 years ago, It's on a 2000 Chevy 1/2 ton. I used the floor pan and dash. That gives me the anti lock brakes,a good AC and etc.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs
Thats pretty cool! I'd like to see more. Did you make the box from a suburban? And is the rear wheel well opening from a front fender? And a front bumper on the back? Almost looks like a pushmepullyou! (Don't get me wrong, I like it) Judging by the roof line, you started with a suburban or panel truck?

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs
Hi, The truck was built using a Suburban roof section and the suburban rear fenders and tailgate. the suburban used the front bumper on the rear as did I.
the rear doors are fiberglass from molds I made from the front doors. I used rear fender patch panels to raise the rear openings. the frame, firewall, dash, floor pan,seats,carpet,5.3/46le are from the 2000 Chevy. |

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs
not a fetish just think 4 doors are better with grand-kids. the 65 took about 2 months to build. the 67 a little over a month on the first build then I found I made the stretch about 6" short for my son in-law so I shortened the bed 6" and made the cab and doors 6" longer. That only took a week and a half. I retired 6 years ago so I have the time to have fun building the way l want.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs
Although I am a die hard 67-72 guy, the original crew cabs are much cleaner in this body style.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs
the proportions on both look great ,always wonder how much leg room some of the original early conversions had...

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs
does anyone know where to find any cc's. i am seriously liking these and like 65 crew, I have grandkids and need a back seat and have a teenage daughter that is always having someone over for the day or weekend. I have a family van, but need and looking for a very good ba crew cab or possibly a suburban. On these cc's, does anyone know the dimensions for wheelbase dimensions, which later model 4x4 frames will slide under. Is anyone familiar with the 305 v6. the one i required has been sitting for couple years and after i got the bad gas out and no longer have to prime the carb to start, but it has no power. won't pull itself downhill, checked the points and dwell, plugs look good. Any help or advice would be apprecieated.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs
The Crews were mostly the same WB as a long bed truck, that is why most have the beds cut short in the front. If you can find a crew, any crew, your looking in the $5k+ range and then you have to restore/rebuild it. There was one on the Evilbay site for $69K a while back...very nice truck.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs
Here is my little extended cab, we should have her in primer in two weeks. Stuff is just tacked together right now, we ended up using two sets of doors and two cabs to make it.

And if they only did a 12" extension, a short bed box would still fit on a long bed frame.
