Need Help with OEM wheels

Just curious on what you think origanally came on my truck as far as wheels?? It appears by my researching that the caps that are on this truck now could be wrong for the year. It is a 1973 3/4 ton camper special. I am trying to find some affordable tires and rubber for it. Have a hell of a time finding 8lug rims and no luck at all finding 8 lug rallys!!!.. So question is.. Are these my original wheels and caps that came on this truck? If so I will just replace tires and caps and not worry about wheels. I want to put on about a 31" tire to be safe as the truck has no lift on it... Please see old pic and I hope to have some new ones with my progress shortly... Thanks everyone

Re: Need Help with OEM wheels

They appear correct to me. We had the same truck when I was a kid and it had those. Ours had 16.5 wheels. There were no rallye wheels for 3/4 ton trucks in 73, and if I remember correctly they did not even come out for 1/2 tons until a few years later.

Re: Need Help with OEM wheels

The original wheels would have been 16'5" rim. Stock tire was 8.75/16.5, with options of 9.50/16.5, 10.00/16.5 and a 7.50/16" tire on 16" rim. Unless going for factory stock I would change to a 16" rim for greater tire availability and cheaper tire replacement cost. Those hubcaps will fit GM 16" rim also. You should be able to run a 235/85-16 with no problems.

The front hubcap is correct for that year, the rear hubcap came out in the later 70's I think around 1979?

Re: Need Help with OEM wheels

The hubcaps with the yellow bowtie in the center should be the same for 3/4 and 1 ton single wheels from 1973 up to 1978 or so. They turn up on Epay once in awhile, local junkyards are a good place to look too. As for the wheels every one I've seen around here on the older 3/4 tons has been white, usually still has the original paint too.

Re: Need Help with OEM wheels

Try you a set of the newer 8 lug alloys from 2500 HD trucks. They came out from 2000-2008 and work perfect on older trucks.I have a set on my '69 GMC and they look good.Only trouble is that you have to get the right lugnuts to use the center caps.
