Interior

I'm putting new carpet in my truck and a few other things. I bought these kick panels from LMC, why do they have this bump on each side? As you can see the vent is not flush. What the h*ll is this all about? Has anyone put any in before?

Re: Interior

My truck didn't have the vent covers and I didn't know they existed til you posted. I don't know what the lump is for. But here's a way to fix it. You can cut the lump out and then weld some plastic from a donor piece of trim in it's place (like a patch panel). You can use a piece of trim from almost any auto. To weld plastic, you basically just melt it slightly and flatten it out with a screwdriver. Since it looks like you already painted the plastic, do it again after the repair. The cover up should be seamless.

I got the idea for plastic welding from an import car mag at the grocery store. I think it's got "project" in the title. The whole issue of the mag was about fixing up a CRX from the junkyard to the car show. The plastic "welding" trim repair part was pretty sweet.

How awesome is that ? You pay good money for parts then we get to figure out how to make them work. It could make a fellow bitter if he let it.

....64-66 have an arch across the opening for a handle that opens the door in the vent assembly. Those bumps would clear the hardware.

Thats what I was thinking. I called them and there listed for 60-66. I should be recieving a call from LMC Friday to let me know what the deal is. I'll have to check my 66 to see if the vent covers are in it, i dought it though!

Yes it could make a fellow bitter to modify new parts!!

Can some one post a pic of a 64-66 vent cover?

Re: Interior

Jeremy, I have a spare set of 64-66 vent assemblies, (don't know if they will interchange or not) but there is no vent cover. When you open the vents they pivot around and direct air into the cab and seal on the edges. Do you open the vents with a dash lever?

My '63 has the handles. I'm not sure if that's factory or not though.

My '64. Sorry for the poor shot but you can see that the "bumps" accomodate the vend lever.

Re: Interior

Those kick panels are for the '63-'66's. They are as in the pic above. The '60-'62's that are cable operated are what you have 62 short step. You could probably trim those to fit, but might be a PITA to make look right. Then again you shouldn't have to. If they advertise parts to fit a certain year(s) they should fit without modification.....unless they tell you they might need modified.

Re: Interior

Kevin, i need to check my 66 to see if they are still there. Yes it operates from the dash.

Thanks for the info and the pics, very helpfull. And yes they should change the catalog. I'm expecting a call from them today i'll tell them what they need to do. Hopefully the 63-66 vents will work, i'll let you all know when i get it figured out. Thanks guys!

Re: Interior

I think the 63 to 66 vents will just bolt in, however I sure like the look of the 60-62 better...
the 63 -66 are designed so you can just kick it open with your foot.

Re: Interior

Here is some more progress. Getting the seat in, its out of a 99 suburban. Its the 2nd row seat. Had to borrow a seat base from an 88-95 chevy truck and make some brackets. I need to paint the seat base also.

I'll just have to get some big floor mats to catch the mud! Getting close for paint!! It probably will not be hammer tone!

Everybody changes the seat. I'd love to find a stock seat for mine. When I look at classic vehicals for sale I get pissed if somebody changed the seat I'd trade my seat for a stocker if anyone is interested..Its out of a 80s chevy PU I think. Thats what the previous owner said..

I wanted to keep the stock seat but i did not want to spend 4 or 5 hundred bucks to get it recovered. I found this one at LKQ salvage for $46.13 with tax, so that was the way to go for me!
