Biggest 20" tires you are running?

I hate the little "rubber band" tires on 20" wheels...just curious what the biggest you can run or you guys are running, both front and back. This is for a 67 swb 2wd with a 3/5 drop. Any pics? I really appreciate it...

Re: Biggest 20" tires you are running?

My front rim/tire set up on my 78 gmc and 72 cheyenne would not work for a bag suspension up front, (tires are too wide ) I have a static 4 inch drop and sometimes the tires rub on the wheel wells ( on my 78 gmc I had to take the fender wells off and cut the lips on the inside of the fenders it has a 5.5 front drop). For you my friend I would personally recomend 20x8.5 wheels with 5.5-6.5 backspacing and 245/45/20 tires up front, rear you can go as wide as 315 depending on your rear wheel backspacing. Here are a few pics of my 68 with 22s not bagged but will be in the future, I got such fat tall tires on the back that they are almost rubbing the front wheel opening (will fix that problem moving the trailing arm crossmember back about an inch.

Re: Biggest 20" tires you are running?

well I missed the deal which is what I figured but at least the guy was nice enough to cal me back....

If you bag it the best you can hope for is a tire 29 1/2" tall with no wheel wells after that your into the inner fender support ...my 235/75/15's (29 1/2"s) will just clear my support by about [ ] that much also you start to run into heater box issues then hood hindges ( my LCA are cupped 2 3/4" it was easy and cheap I also used a stock monroe 5258 ( I think I can get # if you need it) shock it drives very well but I think I may mod the upper by putting a cut in it and flattening the ball joint...how ever it doesn't bind and no scrubline issues)

on the rear I have 31/10.5/15 with a 2 1/2" C notch and they rub at the top of the wheel well right where the tub meets the inner bed panel

these are on stock rallies

a smaller tire and I would drag the collectors off (they're alittle ummmmm worn now) so an exhaust mod woud have to be done ( inside the frame rail with dif headers) nice thing is I can drive it on the Bump stops if I had to??? like at the ice cream place

Ron, Youre on the right track, my cheyenne sports a 4-6 drop from ECE, wheels are AR TTII's fronts are 20x8.5s with a 4.5 backspace ( I recommend at least 5.5, I mest up on the measurements when I order my front ones but now I know, I will add an extra inch of bs later on to the front ones) rears are 20x10's with 5.5 backspace this worked out ok. Front tires are 285/45s and rears are 305/50s. I like that hot rod look Also, I think those tire sizes will be the max tall, wide you may use unless you do some mods to your truck.

Can you post some more pics of your Cheyenne? Or pm me and you can email them to me directly. Specifically around the wheels to get and idea of how they look setting in or out. Inside from underneath would be great to front and rear. When you get an opportunity of course sir..dont mean to hijack this thread but hopefully this will help others with the same questions as well. And im with you on the Hot Rod look as well. Thanks in advance.
