WTB 4WD SWB frame in or near near CT

I am looking to see if there are any frames I can afford for my 1972 SWB 4WD in or around CT. My zip is 06475 to be exact. It seems with all the rust around here these are in short supply. I have a complete running plow truck, but the frame has some pretty serious cancer.

Please post pics if available. Some rust and rot is acceptable as long as it concentrated to one area vs the whole frame. Surface rust isnt an issue since I will be sandblasting and repainting it anyway.

I do not know the differences between the years on these frames so if you do please let me know.

I assume I cannot convert a coil frame to a leaf spring so if I am wrong you will have to provide me with the info to do the conversion before I will buy the coil frame from you.

Any and all info is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Re: WTB 4WD SWB frame in or near near CT

I know where there is a decent one about an hour from me, but I am about 4.5 hours from CT (enfield) area. If you wanted to make the trip, i could contact the guy and make sure he still had it.

Is it an hour towards CT? Or further away? Price will greatly influence my decision. See what he says.

Thanks,
Dave

Hour Further. He told me the price, which I believe was under $500, but I can't remember. I know it included the axles too.

Let me see if I can shoot him off an email to see if he still has it. I need to send him one to see if he still has the blazer body I was looking at.

You are 260 miles from me. Let me know what he says. I will have to think about it.

So it is a rolling chassis?

Thanks,
Dave

Re: WTB 4WD SWB frame in or near near CT

I talked to the guy. He said he had someone looking at it, but no plans made. He said that it might be tweaked a little bit though. It didn't look off to me when I was there, but that was a while ago, and I think he figured this out after. He said he wanted $300-400 for it though.

Re: WTB 4WD SWB frame in or near near CT

Not sure on the pictures, as I am not sure he has a camera, but I can ask. This is what I got from him when I asked about the frame:

Quote:
the frame i think you are talking about is pushed in on the side a little, needs to be tweaked on a frame machine.i do have a real nice 87 shortbed frame 4x4with a real nice bare cab.if he wanted to go a liitle newer.
And yes, when I had talked to him before it was a rolling chassis with axles and tires on it to move it. I'll dig back through my pictures and see if I took any pictures when I was there. He has a bunch of other parts/parts trucks too if you needed other parts as well, but like I said, he's around an hour away from me (further from you) New Albany, PA I believe is the town.

Re: WTB 4WD SWB frame in or near near CT

I really appreciate your doing all that for me, but I am not looking for a frame that needs to put through a frame machine. I will have to pass on that one, but thank you very kindly.

Re: WTB 4WD SWB frame in or near near CT

No problem, I figured that was the case. It didn't look off to me when I looked at it, but sometimes that can be the worst one to get, and find out later it is.

And it was no trouble at all. The guy has a 71 blazer body I am considering, so I had been needing to email him anyways.

These are rare and you`d do well to find a cheap truck for the frame. That`s waht I did.Finding a bare frame laying around that someone doesn`t want is a snipe hunt,IMO.

Well I figured I would try. I am not going to buy a truck for the frame. I will repair mine first. Thanks though

Re: WTB 4WD SWB frame in or near near CT

I understand and I wish you luck.I`m sure there`s one out there for you.Just trying to help from my personal experience.I found that a good frame can go for the cost of a rust bucket non-running/partial truck.I looked for years far and wide.the far and wide part can be an issue with a large item like a frame, too.I hope I`m not coming off wrong. You`re doing the right thing posting a WTB.I just missed one on here for $700 within practical driving distance and I come here everyday.Hopefully if someone has one they`ll have seen your thread and offer you first.

Re: WTB 4WD SWB frame in or near near CT

I know what you mean, but I have seen 2wd swb frames for $400 around here in the past. I paid $350 for a running truck with a hydraulic plow. I won't even register the truck this winter. I just need to plow the driveway. Thanks for helping out.
