87 S-10 fuel problems

I have a 4 cyl throttle body injection. I think it's the fuel pump, but just curious is it possible for the relay (fuel pump) to go bad. And is there a fuse that controls this? Is it that hard to change the fuel pump.? thanx...matt

Did you check the fuel injection fuse? This may have gone out or anyother one that may have gone out to cause the fuel pump or injectors to go out.

BTW: Yes it should be in the tank.

Matt,

Here's a quick way to tell if the pump is working with the radio off and as quiet a place as possable turn the key to the assy. position and listen for a buzz sound if you don't hear anything then it could be two thing's. 1st the pump is bad and it's in the fuel tank. 2nd your not getting power to the pump.

Check to see if your getting power out to the tank by jacking the truck up and then follow the wires from the frame to the tank then find the connector at the top of the tank you should be able to disconnect it without removing anything then use a test light and probe one of the pins and have a friend trun the key to the assy. position and see if the light comes on you may have to do this several times untill you get the correct pin when you find the right pin and the light comes on it will only stay lit for a few seconds and thats normal. If you do have power there then your problem is a bad pump

If you dont have power then start tracing the wires to find the fault.
